I spent a few days in Alice Springs in late September/early October 2008, and I took a day trip to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. If you can, I think renting a car in Alice Springs and driving yourself to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park would definitely be ideal - there are places along the way where I would've liked to have... more

We visited the Ayers Rock Voyages Resort for a conference and a few days sightseeing. We took a late afternoon trip to the Olgas by coach, with a walk through the gorge, and an early morning walk around Uluru, both inside the National Park. The scenery is stunning in both cases. Our coach trip to the Olgas was with a... more

Tours are expensive and don't give you the ease of seeing things when you want and not with 20 other crowded tour buses. If you are independent and like the freedom then this self drive is perfect. We flew into Alice then Rented a car from the airport and drove to Uluru. The drive was very easy and interesting. Took... more

We went to Uluru and I agree with many of the other reviews. It was interesting, but way overpriced. You had no option, but to take the tours. There was not much sun, so we watched the rock for what seemed like hours, with little color changes. The hotels were all very pricey. At least the flies were not has... more

Ayers Rock was our last stop on a whirlwind 2 week run thru Australia (Easter vacation for son). We drove from Alice to Ayers, about 5 hours. Great roadside stops (don't miss Dinky the Singing Dingo). The rock is gorgeous, hands down. You never tire of watching the sun come up and the sun go down over it. We would... more

I agree with lu2travelagain. Ayre's Rock was a great experience and Discovery Eco Tours really made it all come alive. Unfortunately, due to a tight schedule we did not do the full tour but if we ever go again we definitely will. Whilst we were there we visited The Olgas (a good afternoon' s visit to this rock formation). King's... more

I surprised my long term missus with a trip here. We stayed at the desert gardens, great place, lovely room with balcony looking out to the rock itself. Climbed the rock, it's a deceptively long climb but quite easy, well worth it, amazing at the top, and windy too, cold'nt believe there are actual tree's up there, under the shade... more

What can I say? I've wanted to stand atop Uluru since I was a kid. But that all changed when I read a book on it's history and the culture around it. I wanted to respect the land, the people, and the traditions. So my wife and I decided to take the full tour around it. Was it ever worth... more

We've travelled all around the world and this was our first visit to Australia. After reading trip advisor reviews and talking to a few acquaintances we decided to fly to Ayers Rock for a day to visit Uluru. We landed at noon and flew out the following day at 5 pm. It's a rock. Everything is expensive. We were at... more

I found Uluru and the Kata Tjutas to be absolutely spectacular. I used Discovery EcoTours which had small groups and professional, knowledgeable guides. There is a spiritual quality to it. Also, the aboriginal culture is fascinating. Please dont climb Uluru no matter how tempting. It is sacred to the tribe which owns it and I think it should be respected... more
