Like others, when travelling to Europe, I have a picture of a hotel in my head. You know the type; often described as 'romantic' or 'quaint' . Four to six stories high. Small, but not too small. Not on a big thoroughfare, but not impossible to find either. Near the sites in a neighbourhood oozing the local culture. Full of... more
The location was great. The staff were friendly (with one minor exception). We had the Palomar suite (Room 600) awesome suite, great balcony with private roof top view and beautiful sunsets. Really unique and special room, for the price it was incredible. The elevator goes to the fifth floor, this is on the sixth, so you should know you have... more
We thought this hotel was a great value and definitely in the best location. Our room was clean and comfortable. The bathrooms were especially nice. The staff was always helpful with questions and restaurant reservations. We ate breakfast only one morning at the hotel, but thought it was a decent value as well. It was quiet and nice to be... more
This hotel was incredibly insensitive. I had a death in the family that forced me to cancel two days before I arrived. I called them on time, and noone informed me that I had to cancel online. This also is not stated clearly on their website. They have sent me several nasty e-mails. more
Just had 2 nights at the plaza mayor and it delivered in every way. I had room 201 which though small was clean and comfortable, nice bright bathroom, tv, wardrobe and safe. My friends were on the fifth floor though and said that their rooms werent as good. Location is brilliant, so close to everything. We got a taxi from... more
I had planned our trip to Spain for the past year and the consensus opinion amongst all of the guidebooks I regularly use (Rick Steves, Frommer's and Lonely Planet) about where to stay in Madrid was the Hotel Plaza Mayor so I never really considered any other place. I have to say that they were all right on the money.... more
These people will bend over backwards to help you with whatever you need. Service is their strength. The room was secure, clean, and fairly comfortable (beds not plush). We were satisfied with our stay and would book again. more
Very good location - close to plaza and within walking distance of cathedral, palace & botanical gardens. Friendly staff. No bar, no tea/coffee facilities in room - only vending machine in foyer. Not suitable for elderly or infirm with luggage as lift starts on the first floor more
Booked this hotel based on reviews on here and because it was the only budget hotel in the top 10. We were not dissapointed as we thought it represented good value for money (we booked directly through the hotel's website). Good Points: Central location yards from Plaza Mayor. Reception generally helpful and friendly. Room was of a good size and... more
