Our family of five (Mom, Dad and three teenage daughters) enjoyed our stay at the La Calcina apartments. In addition to the hotel proper, La Calcina (pronounced Calcheena) has four apartments that are a block away. We stayed in two of them, the Iris and the Viola. Check out www.warmhospitality.com for pictures and details. The apartments aren't on the canal... more

La Calcina was so highly recommended that I feared we would be disappointed but, it deserves all the raves. Our room was tiny but what an incredible view. One window looked over the Giudecca Canal and the other onto the bell tower of Santa Maria Gesuati. We were next to small staircase that opened onto a rooftop patio with sunbrellas... more

I stayed there on a friend’s recommendation for three days in late June-early July 2007. I booked on short notice, and no room was available for the first night I was in Venice so I stayed in another hotel nearby which was pleasant enough, but La Calcina was much nicer and less expensive. My room was a single and, while... more

The location of this hotel was perfect. Right on the water, a real sun trap. Everything was within walking distance, and it was lovely and peaceful to return here in the evening, away from the hoards of people around St Marks Square. We walked all over Venice, you're never far from a gorgeous little square where you can sit with... more

After 4 nights at the Hotel Londra it was going to be difficult for a hotel charging a third of the price to match the experience. But in it's own way La Calcina is an undeniable gem. The public areas have wonderful character, the outlook and transport connexions are great and the rooms comfortable with huge character. The service has... more

It's pretty hard to find reasonably priced hotel in Venice but La Calcina beats them all! Located near to the Zaterre stop and opposite Guideca the location is peaceful but just 10 minutes from St Marks Square. The hotel is small and traditional but not fussy and very comfortable. Rooms are slighlty small but this is Venice with space at... more

If any hotel in Venice is better located than La Calcina then we don't know where, because this is perfect. A short walk away from the Grand Canal and less than 15 minutes from St. Mark's Square. The Alilaguna boat from the airport stops 50 metres from the hotel, making transfers extremely easy. Whilst our bedroom and ensuite were a... more

Stayed here in January for Carnevale. Very convenient on the vaporetto from Piazzale Roma not so handy on foot for San Marco Square about 15 minutes walk/hike which I personally could have done without in my hurry to the Square for the Carnevale activities. Front desk staff are efficient. Our rooms were ready despite us arriving early at 10.45am. Room... more

I'm just back from Venice and still enchanted with this little jewel. I had spent the two previous nights in Venice for my job in a very posh hotel, four-start Monaco Grand Canal, very refined, perfect staff. But when I moved over to La Calcina for the Saturday and Sunday nights I didn't miss the Monaco Grand Canal. The 'pensione'... more
