I stayed here in March 2005, and had a very similar experience to that of the Cheshire couple - being directed down a series of dingy corridors to get to the annex. I totally regretted staying here. It gives the newcomer to Basel the impression that the town is rough and grotty. It is not. I had business at the... more
We had booked into the "Hotel Central / Euler" for one night. Having found the Hotel Central, down a dingy back street, we couldn't get into it, and were directed round the block to the Hotel Euler. This is a grand-looking old hotel fronting onto the Bahnhofplatz, where the trams stop. From the plush reception we were shown down a... more
We enjoyed our stay at the Euler, and especially liked the location. It is just a few steps from the main railway station, so ideal for people arriving by train. I must agree with previous comments about the air conditioning - not sure how it worked, but if you fiddled about with the bewildering buttons and sliders, the fan pumped... more
Our rooms were spacious and splendid. The bathrooms are gigantic and immaculate, but there is some difficulty for older guests in getting in and out of the shower. All services, especially dining room and room service were outstanding, although we did have some language problems at the front desk. The location so near the tram terminal makes noise a problem... more
Stayed at the Euler hotel on business. Regular business travellers will know that most hotels and hotel rooms are exactly the same wherever you go but this place is very different. It has a five star Swiss rating but would probably get a three in the UK. Excellent location and one of the best bars I've ever sat at as... more
Booked the sister-hotel, the Central. On arrival I was upgraded to the main Hotel Euler without any additional charge. Not only that, I had booked room only but was given breakfast the following morning; again, free of any additional charge. Remember the City Tax applies to all Basel Hotels. CHF3.60 per day - but in return you get a free... more
Had a three night stay in the Euler in November 2004 and absolutely loved it. We had booked to stay at the Central, but on checking in were upgraded to the Euler for the same price. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was bright, spacious and comfortable, and the piano bar was just wonderful. This is a hotel... more
My husband and I arranged to aty at the Euler, described as one of the finest hotels in Basel and the host of Queen Victoria and other celebrities and dignitaries. The website tells the reader of the hotel's glorious past and reputation for quality and service. However, when we arrived on a hot summer day, we had to wait a... more
Lage: direkt am Bahnhof, daher zentral. Viel Verkehr rund ums Hotel, aber die Zimmer haben schalldichte Fenster. Keine Klimaanlage. Parken... more
