One of the most pleasant features of this hotel is that there are few rooms compared with the amount of public space, so that the hotel mostly feels quiet and peaceful. The comprehensive national smoking ban in effect since 1 July 2008 has taken care of what used to be a huge discomfort for the non smoking guests. The rooms... more
The good: The Amstel Hotel is a great hotel and is probably the best known hotel in the Netherlands. The building is beautiful and location is great if you are looking for a more quit area on the canals. Management has done a great job with the staff in recent years. These days staff is very friendly and attentive. Great,... more
The hotel is sensational (huge rooms, great service, great view) but in a terrible location if you're there to sightsee or otherwise enjoy the canal zone. Also no alternatives to the amazingly overpriced Intercontinental breakfast - more on that later. It's just too far away - can't walk, and you have to take two trams get back to the hotel... more
Fantastic hotel. All the concierge are very helpful. Hotel is classy and expensive but worth it. I stayed 2 times in one month at this hotel and loved it more and more. The view from my room was breathtaking. Room service was great. more
Overall a very nice hotel. The room was fairly large by European city standards, and everything in the room was of the highest quality. It is a taxi ride, a metro ride, or a 20 minute walk to anything nearby. But the rooms are spacious and large. The service from the staff was well above average. The concierge was... more
Simply the best! Whenever I have to spend time in Amsterdam, I stay at this fabulous hotel. Granted, it is not cheap but you get your money's worth, be it for the friendliness of the staff, the beauty of the dining rooms right next to the river or the sumptuous bedrooms. The only small complaint concerns the choice of programs... more
Visitors often have an advantage over the local residents, for they get to try some of the best hotels in any given area; locals tend not to stay in local hotels for obvious reasons; we live here. But last weekend my partner and I decided to stay at Amsterdam’s Grande Dame Hotel – the Amstel Hotel – in which we... more
Having just spend a 4 day break at this hotel I can thoroughly recommend it. As an Intercontinental Ambassador I was upgraded to a beautifull corner suite overlooking the river. The rooms was spacious and luxurious and the bathroom a delight to my wife. As mentioned previously the 'rain' showers in the rooms are great. I had no problems with... more
