An old hotel that has been modernised. Standard rooms are very small and ours had a sloping floor. The view from the bedroom window was of the building site next door; dust from which set off the fire alarm at 3 a.m. and got everyone outside on the prom. The food and service at breakfast was terrible. No parking. We... more

Stayed at the Empress for one night on a business trip. Truly dissappointed for the amount of money it cost (£85 per night). Small room facing other rooms at the Hotel with a net outside the window for whatever reason. Staff unhelpful - I requested an iron and was told I had to come down to reception and fetch it... more

I knew going to the Isle of Man that it would be pricey, but I was surprised at being given such a small room with view of an ugly alleyway for £85 per night. Staff at reception very unhelpful, on two evenings was ignored by reception staff talking amongst themselves, maybe because I was in work gear (thought workers would... more

Stayed here for a long weekend in July. It's a large traditional looking hotel about 2/3 of the way towards the northern end of Douglas Prom. We booked a sea view "executive room" which overlooked the bay. The room was small-ish but OK for a long weekend. The Hotel rooms looked like they had been completely remodeled a couple of... more

Stayed for a 4 night stay, booking a double and a single room, having stayed at this hotel on 4 previous occations over a 8 year period was somewhat dissapointed with the rooms, we were allocated a rear facing single room, with a veiw of the building site next door. the double was side facing and rather on the small... more

We booked the Empress for a four day break and found it great value for money. The room although small was spotless and the breakfast very enjoyable. We dined in the Hotel for the four nights we were there and found the staff very friendly and helpful and the evening meals very acceptable. The swimming pool and sauna were an... more

Normally I stay in the Claremont when working in Douglas which apart from needing a bit of a revamp is ok. Due to lack of availability I had to move to the Empress for a week. Upon arrival it seemed ok apart from the multitude of steps in the bar area. Met up with some colleagues who'd been there over... more

Used this seafront hotel as a base for attending son's birthday party; the Empress has a great location but this might be affected by the apartment block being built next door. Older style hotel, adequate room, currently with seaview but not for much longer!! Foyer and bar are very smart but the breakfast restaurant is very strange, it is an... more
