I stayed at the Sofitel Lafayette for one night in May while in DC on business. I usually stay in Kimpton hotels while on business but, for some reason, I was booked at a Sofitel this time around. There is eveything to like about this hotel. The location allows you to walk / take the metro (1 block) to everywhere you would want to go and the rooms and service are exemplary.
