Yes it's old. No, it has not kept up with the times. It is noisy in this area at night. The old hotel is kind of funky, and sometimes even a bit creepy. But it is clean, and the staff was unfailingly polite and helpful. The plumbing worked fine; we even had a bidet. The beds are weird and low... more

We booked this hotel for one night before flying out of Lima because the price was right ($44 USD). The neighborhood is horrible, very unsafe and not many options for entertainment or restaurants. We did have a tasty but simple dinner of chicken and french fries but there was no atmosphere and car horns going off constantly. The room was... more

Since we had only one whole day (and 2 nights) in Lima we wanted to stay in centro. This place is very reasonably priced for its very central location on San Martin Plaza and can be booked (through an agency) on the hotel's website. It has lots of character, so if you appreciate that, you may well be happy here.... more

Too many people seem to have stayed here and written critical reviews, knowing what they were buying, or if they didn't, they hadn't read the previous reviews. Sure, it's a hotel built in the 1920s; sure the top two floors aren't being used and certainly the rooms we had on the 4th floor smelt a bit musty. BUT, the architecture... more

we booked this hotel because of the positive reviews, and the pictures in their web site..well dont be fooled by them, in fact this hotel was built in 1923 and it still the same way as it was! The lobby was pretty but once you start your journey to the rooms its another deal, 1 out of 2 elevators work... more

This hotel has amazing architecture, and the staff is quite helpful. However, the neighborhood is genuinely very unsafe, and its probably not worth staying here given that it is not much more money to stay in Miraflores neighboorhood which is dramatically safer. Especially at night. The central location IS nice during the daytime however. more

very impressive grand hotel needing some updating but can imagine what it was like in its glory days . Rooms good size, comfortable beds, outdated bathrooms but good shower . Location good on plaza san martin with a lot of restaurants within walking distance. Big negative is no air conditioning and it was quite warm when we were there but... more

This hotel is situated directly on one of the main squares in Peru, within easy distance of all the central tourist destinations. It is old and traditional, and looks extremely impressive (my taxi driver said it was one of the best hotels in Lima, and I have no doubt that after the newer resort hotels eg the Marriott etc, it... more

My wife and I went to Peru for a week and stayed at the Grand Bolivar for 1 day. We booked a day at the Grand Bolivar based on the Trip Advisor reviews and boy did we have a surprise waiting for us. Pros: 1) Cheap. Paid about $50 for a night. 2) The lobby and the exterior of the... more

The Grand Bolivar in Downtown Lima, Peru is an old hotel with character and charm. Although the hotel has seen better days, it has a rich and colorful history and is ideally located for daytime strolls to the Plaza de Armes and surrounding shops. Breakfast is minimal, the Pisco Sours great, but the staff at the Grand Bolivar is 5... more
