Our family group of 11 persons(age range 13-53) stayed at this hotel for a week. The place is very clean and the staff friendly. The rooms are spacious (at least the ones we got) with clean bathrooms and clean and fresh towels. The beds and pillows are comfortable. Our room faced other hotel balconies but we did'nt mind at all since we... more

My room was clean and reasonably quiet especially with the TV and/or AC on. The section of town is very noisy and heavily travelled, but I felt safe and comfortable during my 4 night stay. I enjoyed the free breakfast each morning and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I liked being able to walk out the front door... more

We booked a "tour" that arranged our hotels and buses around Costa Rica, so they made this selection for us. We were scheduled to stay here the night we arrived in San Jose, but our floor was flooded. The very nice staff at the desk handled the situation with charm and had us in another hotel without hassel. We came... more

We stayed 15 nights starting in December and ending Jan 8, 2008. The hotel was centrally located and very near all the museums, market places, good restaurants, bars, etc. The Staff (restaurant, reception, maid service, security, etc.,) were courteous and always willing to help out. The food quality and service was excellent in comparison to the food and service at... more

I stayed at the Balmoral in November and enjoyed my stay. The staff at the hotel was friendly and accommodating. They copied my passport free of charge, and the currency exchange rate was very fair. The attached restaurant, El Patio Del Balmoral, is fantastic. It features a retractable roof, great food, and is buzzing with life. It seems the be... more

The highlight of this hotel is the staff: all the ones we spoke with were warm, courteous and helpful. The bedroom was decent, the cable t.v. was a nice perk. There are no safes in the room but there is a safe in the lobby which you can use free-of-charge, which helped me feel at ease in a city setting.... more

The only good thing that I can say about this hotel is just about the staff because the rest is horrible. The rooms are decorated without any taste, the area is full of prostitutes and they think that every single guy is $$$ + the area around the hotel is NOT safe at all (during the night). Please people, barrio... more

My girlfriend and i stayed in this hotel last year for a couple of days. i liked it because of the location, being in the middle of downtown San Jose. Our last night the power went out for about two hours, so we had a little bit of difficulty getting ready in the dark. The management sucks! When it comes... more

The Hotel Balmoral lived up to the other reviews that I read. It is located on Central Avenue - right in the midst of all things good and all things bad. There was a 'bouncer' aka security who was ever present at the front entrance. I was told to put my gold necklace inside of my shirt and to take... more

This was the worst hotel ever... A lady in our group got her purse stolen while eating supper in their restaurant. When we asked them to call the police to file a report, they all just stared at us. We finally got to review the security tape and it looked like an inside job. Beware! Don't stay there! The rooms... more
