This is a piece of paradise on earth. If you are looking for a get away from it all, a quiet piece of the world to totally unwind and relax this is the place. BUT this place will not suit children and those who can not do without modern technology. There is no fresh water here; all bathing water comes... more

we stayed here for the last 2 days of our holiday - was very quiet and small (only 14 rooms or something). the beach and pool are lovely, the staff and food is excellent. Dont think I'd manage more than few days here, but for what we wanted (2 days to kick back and do nothing before we headed home)... more

We stayed at Pongwe for 4 nights during our honeymoon. It was so fantastic, we could not have wished for a more perfect retreat to chill out and unwind. It has the most perfect beach we have ever seen, and is so private. Plenty of sunbeds and hammocks to chill out in, a volleyball net should you feel energetic, plus... more

I live in Africa and have a shortlist of my favorite places. This hotel is on it. I was a guest at Pongwe in late August at the tail end of a trip through eastern Africa. Based on the reviews on this site, I expected the accomodation, food and service to be good. I was blown away by how good.... more

What an amazing place! We had a wonderful time. The friendliness of the staff, the excellent food, the spacious beautifully swahili-decorated room, the cleanness of the whole area, but above all the breathtaking beach with the immensity of the Indian Ocean, all this was more that you can imagine. It's incredible, I never experienced this. The sand of the beach... more

We stayed here for a few days and were impressed by staff and management alike. The food was good, and the small size of the hotel meant that it really did feel like a desert island looking out from the well designed accommodation. We were older by quite some margin than a lot of the other guests, which meant that... more

We stayed here on the last leg of our 13 day honeymoon. We were in Bunglalow 12 near the far end for 8 nights. I cannot think of a lovelier place to stay, eat and relax. The food is great - we had the beach seafood platter one evening and it was amazing! The infinity pool is gorgeous and the... more

(See also separate review for Matemwe as there is some important info regarding Zanzibar). What a fantastic place! THE SEA: brilliant even at low tide good to swim into and very safe, but not good to snorkel (not much to see). THE BEACH: magical...mystical...heaven on earth... THE PEOPLE: There are no words to thank them enough. Every single one of... more

We arrived at Pongwe having been on Zanzibar for a week, staying at Mbweni & Nungwi. Would have liked to spend 2 or 3 nights there but couldn't get 2 rooms for 2 nights together at any point in July. As it was, we arrived quite early and arranged for a late check out - they have a separate room... more

We arrived at Pongwe after a 2 night stay in Stone town, what a contrast. Pongwe Beach hotel is- a brilliant place for relaxing. The beach is stunning and the sea changes colour ever minute, I never got bored of watching it. The room was very nice, we had a double and single bed in ours. We had a problem... more
