I am going to be driving from Wisconsin to Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, and Ottawa. This is my 2nd road trip to these cities, but it has been a while. Could anybody help me find the right hotel for me and my family. I am going to be traveling with my wife, and two young kids (7 & 4), and for the first time I am bringing my mom to show her the beauty this land has to offer.

What I prefer, is to stay in Old Montreal, but if it is too expensive, I'll settle with downtwon Montreal. I will be arriving in Montreal on Saturday July 26, and have a budget of less than 150 dollars per room per night. I will only be spending 2 nights since last trip I spended a total of 4 nights here. I will also be spending 2 nights in Quebec City, since last trip I only took the tour bus, and only spended the afternoon, and regreted not staying overnight. If anybody can also recommend a hotel in Quebec City it would be great. I also prefer staying in Old Quebec or close to it. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hmm... I just did a quick search on priceline.com and found Embassy Suites at $155 a month -- it's a nice new hotel, and the kids can sleep on the pull-out couch and you get your own room. It doesn't have the same understated elegance of the Gault, for example, but it's also a lot cheaper :)

How about the university residences? I'm thinking of the McGill and Uquam ones, both in downtown Montreal and within your budget limit. I've pussyfooted through these residences recently and I must say that I was pleased with what a I saw: cleanliness, good accommodations, great location and really great for someone travelling with two young children.
