A fairly nice resort with a well meaning staff but inept management and poor service for the price. A drink ordered on the beach can take 45 minutes to arrive. The waiters don't seem to know the menu and although they try hard, they really are not trained in good service.
The beach is alright, but is bordered on both sides by overflowing cheap resorts. Be prepared to see alot of very overweight men in skimpy thongs and overly tanned, well fed women in their 50's and 60's strolling along the beach topless.
When we were there there seemed to be only a few couples at the resort. One woman was there to plan her wedding and we saw her screaming at the manager, who seems hapless and not very astute in people skills. She was upset about the service and was shouting "If you can't take care of these little problems how can I trust you to have my wedding?".
Drinks at the main bar are overpriced and watered down.
During our stay we never once had a hot shower in our suite.
The coffee in our room for the coffee pot was decaffeinated. When we discovwered this at 7 a.m. we called down and were told we would have to wait till 7:30. We called at 7:30 and they said it would be sent up. At 8:00 a room service person showed up with...decaffeinated coffee.
When we called down again, they admitted they were out of regular coffee.
It's a shame, becuase the people working there are sweet and eager to please, but poorly trained. I blame management and would advise for the same price you can find better run alternatives in the DR.

My boyfriend proposed to me on a catamaran and surprised me by booking a room in this amazing hotel to spend an incredible honeymoon-like night.

We were welcomed by Freddy who did everything to make our stay the most enjoyable. I had no idea we were going to this fancy hotel and even if we arrived in our soaked short and t-shirt (from the catamaran) we were treated extremely well. As requested by my boyfriend, the room was decorated for the occasion with petals of roses and candles - we could not have asked for a more romantic place!

We felt like we were the only ones there (even though we did see other couples at breakfast the next morning).

It is truly a jewel between all of the all-included resorts, with amazing service and beautiful rooms and decor.

I admit I might be biased because I got engaged the same day, but I can truly say that I could not have asked for more - it was perfect!

My wife and I were originally booked to stay at the Sivory Punta Cana Hotel, another Small Luxury Hotel of the World, but after reading many negative reviews on that hotel and not getting anyone to return my calls after 3 times leaving a message, we were able to get our travel agent to change our reservation to Casa Colonial. What a wonderful decision!! We absolutely adored the staff, always so friendly and looking for a way to make our stay better. The hotel itself was absolutely beautiful, with incredible views and the best spa ever. (According to my wife, who is a spa fanatic!) The drive was a bit long from the Punta Cana area (we atttended a wedding there), but it was a great opportunity to see the country, so we did not mind. If you are looking for a good value, at a truly luxurious hotel, you cannot go wrong a the Colonial. I am not sure we will ever get a chance to return, but I highly recommend it to anyone thinking about going there. Thank you Casa Colonial!!

My wife and I stayed at the Casa Colonial for 5 days, as a part of a 2 weeks stay on the island, and we wished we had booked the entire stay there....

This hotel is a little and unknown Gem in the middle of the "all inclusive factories" of the island.

although not managed by any of the usual hotel companies we normally enjoy staying at (4 seasons, amman, etc..) we have found it absolutely brillant.

Very stylish yet understated. Rooms are extremely confortable and well designed.

the food of the main restaurant is very refined (had a marvelous pumpkin soup).
Beaches are beautifull and well maintained.

The staff is great and welcoming, and I recommand everyone to meet the Manager (Mr Luigi) who has been very professionnal and helpfull for making our stay even more marvellous. (especially if you enjoy Cigars - he is the one you should talk to)

Maybe the only little remark would be the fact that front desk people are not enough informed about other restaurant offers in the city (they must be used to have customers wanting to stay in house - which I can understand in a Hotel like this)

I really recommand that place and we are already planing to comeback as soon as possible
