“Quiet, Relaxing Stay”

Punta Cana Resort & Club

I have read some of the other reviews and also did not experience some of the same things as other travellers. I will reiterate that this is a very QUIET and SECLUDED resort. There is no nightlife close by except for the shops at the Puntacana Galeries, which has free shuttles running about 5 times each day, and even at that it is only bowling and 3 restaurants. Breakfast is a big buffet every morning with decent service (nothing great). There are about 6 restaurant options, all of which are moderately to high priced. La Yola restaurant at the Marina was our favorite dinner by far and cost each couple around $100 (including drinks, appetizers, and entree). Cocoloba at the golf club was about $25 and up per entree, and Franco's on the resort is great for lunch...pizzas $9, and at dinner they have pizzas, sandwiches, salads etc. for around the same.
You can rent a golf cart at the resort and explore, which we highly recommend. This is how we found the Six Senses Spa and did a couples massage the next day. Staff here was incredibly friendly and helpful and they have some great specials when you get there.
Bavaro, which is where all of the all-inclusive resorts are, is about 40 minutes away and an $80 cab ride. We rented a car for $67 instead and drove ourselves. The interesting thing about going to Bavaro is that you get there and can't see any of the other resorts because they are all hidden behind huge security gates and walls. If you want to go to a casino you have to have a reservation and men have to wear pants and closed shoes. We were driving around at nightime (2 couples) and felt unsafe. I have never felt unsafe at any other international destination, so when we got back to the resort at Punta Cana we were even more happy with where we were staying.
Now, having said all of that...people in the Dominican do NOT speak much english...even at the resorts, so be prepared. Drinks at the resort are about $8, which includes taxes and tip. The room was not great by any means, but it was relatively inexpensive and clean. The concierge was not helpful at all, so we figured out things on our own. So, overall I would say that the resort was nice. I probably would not go back to the Dominican though...I have been to other destinations that I prefer in the Caribbean.

All the bad reviews for the Punta Cana Resort & Club make absolutely NO sense to me. My own experience was so intensely perfect that any statements short of GREAT don't even register in my mind. If you are looking for solo R&R, a quite departure from life in the city, sun, sand, and miles of paradise all to yourself, do yourself a favor and book a stay at the Punta Cana Resort & Club.

Staff & Service from arrival to departure was attentive, kind, and quick to serve. Waiters and Bartenders are especially friendly and the girls at the front desk were quite helpful.

I stayed in the beach side hotel building and had a glorious view of the ocean every morning and evening. The housekeepers do a fantastic job of keeping the rooms stocked with water and very clean. I had no complaints here whatsoever.

Being a bit apprehensive about eating meat and dairy in the Dominican Republic, I stuck to a very light diet of fruits, salad and bread. All of which were in abundance thanks to the little organic farm which supplies the hotel's food stock. I recommend keeping it simple, as the restaurants keep strange hours and do tend to be a bit pricey. Still, after a week of both food and drink consumption, my bill was way cheaper than I had anticipated.

Highlight of the trip: The Six Senses Spa.......if you're after real indulgence make sure you reserve a treatment here. The staff is AMAZING and the grounds around the spa and clubhouse are BEAUTIFUL. Not to mention that my favorite restaurant was here too.

All in all the Resort is time and money well spent. I think the important thing to keep in mind is that this place is huge and not crawling with tourists, therefore making it the perfect destination if your goal is a peaceful & relaxing get-away.

Nothing positive to state about my stay @ Punta Cana Hotel Resort- The room was dirty and smelly- Bed linen and towels were repulsive--Believe it or not was laying on a hammock and was sprayed with insecticide all over-- and was told by workers not to worry that they were merely spraying "bugs" and that this was customarily done daily @ 6 PM- There was only a very small part of the beach that one could bathe in- the rest was dirty and dangerous--No life guard on duty!! you swim @ your own risk!!!--Food was High School cafeteria quality and overly-overly priced- Nice ocean view but did not compensate all other aggravations- will never go back to this resort and would not recommend anyone to go there.

“A Bad Choice”

Punta Cana Resort & Club

We stayed here for one week. We will never go back; we travel all over the world and have very reasonable expectations. We were woken up every night to the sound of people screaming. It was the WORST service that we have ever seen. The room wasn't that clean and the walls are very thin.

The food was so bad that we would split a main course, so we wouldn't have to order two meals that are 5x over priced. Bad expensive food. When we were treated poorly, I contacted Nicholas at guest services, I told him what we were unhappy with and he wrote it down and nothing ever came of it, not even a "sorry". The grand finale was 40 minute check out because of mistake that THEY made on our bill and were going to charge us for it, so we almost missed our flight while we waited for them to fix their mistake.

The only good part of the trip was the beach. Beautiful beaches with nice shade and chairs. We loved the water and water sports, but that was the only highlight. I would not go back and I would not recommend it.

“Great place for romantic getaway for 2, not so good if you want nightlife.”

Punta Cana Resort & Club

4 of 5 stars

I just returned from a 4 night stay at the PuntaCana Resort. We booked it through hotwire for $79. It seems to be on there everyday. It will be the only 4-Star hotel being offered for $79. We actually booked the hotel for 3 nights, and needed to extend for one more day. The front desk wanted $250 to extend another night. We checked out, went to the business center and booked another night on hotwire for $79. It was rediculous to have to pack all our things up and take them to the front desk only to take them back to our room 10 minutes later, but the hotel was not willing to extend the stay for $79. Their loss I guess, because now Hotwire just took their commission.
The Punta Cana Airport is actually owned by the resort, and transportation is very easy. Lots of shuttles took out party of 3 for $15. It was a ten minute drive to the resort. This property is HUGE. Miles and Miles and Miles. There are buildings with hotel-style rooms and there are also small beachhouse casitas all over the resort. Because the property is so large, you hardly ever see big groups of people. You can spend the day secluded in a beachside hammock and not have people around you. You can rent a golf cart for $35 per day, but if you consistently tip the bellmen 100 Pesos (about $3) they will take you wherever you want and you won't have any problems. Whenever we needed to get back to the reception area we would call the front desk and a golf cart came to pick us up within minutes. These employees are paid 1500 pesos per week, so a 100 peso tip is very nuch appreciated.
The only downfall to this property is the food situation. We had a hook-up at another all-inclusive resort (we had to rent a car to get there) so we did not have to buy any food. There is no city or anything you can walk to and get food. The ONLY choice is what the resort offers, which Im sure is expensive. Sorry, but unless you bring your own food you are forced to eat at the restaurant (probably around $25 USD per plate).
You can walk to the "employee store" which is a 5 minute walk from the reception. Here they have snacks and bottled water for really cheap. If you tip a bellman, they can drive you to the store. They don't tell guests about it to keep them from going there, but they are not going to deny your money once you are there.
All in all, if you are just with your spouse looking to hang out on the beach all day with no one around, this is the place for you. The rooms are clean. Ask for an ocean view. It was awesome to sit out on the balcony in the morning and watch the ocean. We also rented kayaks for awhile (FREE) and that was really fun. For $79 per night, this hotel deserved my thumbs up.
