My husband and I just returned from our 8 night honeymoon at Sandals Inn. We read reviews and were fully aware of the pros and cons. We made our decision to stay there based on our preference of a less crowded, more intimate, "REAL" type place. Sandals Inn was all of those things. The employees were fabulous! Since there are only 50 rooms, they know the guests by name and really look after you! Wolfe, Dacre, Jack, Roy, Lady Meeks, Narda, Jonathan, Omar, Paul, to name a few... they were awesome. SO sincere and sweet! Always happy to serve and show a good time. No attitudes-- always very nice.
In addition to getting to know the staff, you are able to get to know other guests since the hotel is small. We met fabulous couples whom we really enjoyed spending time with and were quite sad to say goodbye to. I'm quite sure the experience at the other Sandals resorts are different due to their size.
The room was cozy and nice enough. Nothing overly luxurious, but for us, it was perfect.
The food was very good. Definitely make a trip to Oleander and the Italian restaurant at Montego Bay resort... those two were our favorites!
CONS:
The Public beach is much smaller than the pictures show. We were not bothered that it was public... there are often little kids over there, but they are very nice and don't bother you, unless you want to talk to them, which we did :) The pictures were deceiving as it relates to the size of the beach. We still loved going over there for a swim.
The AC in the rooms turn off when you leave the room, so it gets muggy in the room when you're gone and takes a little while to cool off, never getting exactly COLD.
The room and bathroom, are much smaller than I expected, and could use an update.
We paid for the most expensive room, which was still much less than the other Jamaica resorts, but our room was supposed to come with a refrigerator stocked with sodas, water and beer. Our room did not have a fridge and when we inquired, we were told "some of those rooms come with a fridge, some don't". That obviously makes NO sense. They can't offer a level of room where the amenities are different. They had probably given our fridge to another room. They told us they'd give us one when it came available. We never got one.
Our friends had arranged for a surprise candlelight, private dinner for us as a wedding gift. One day, we got to our room and had a message from a friend telling us that there should be a dinner surprise for us. This was our third to last day. The staff had not mentioned this dinner gift so we spoke to the front desk and they acted as if they didn't know what we were talking about until they checked the calendar and came back and said "oh yes, it's there, when would you like to have it?" We already had plans for the rest of our trip and would not have known about the dinner had we not received that message from our friend. We would've left and never received it. So we rearranged our schedules and had the dinner that night. It was nice enough, but not worth the money our friend paid. Come to find out, we got home and our friend told us he had SENT IN THE MAIL a nice note explaining the dinner to us which the staff was supposed to have given us at CHECK IN so that we could plan the dinner for any night during the trip! They didn't give us anything. In addition, our friend had requested we have the candlelight dinner at the other resort so that we could be on the water-- this obviously didn't happen. That was very disappointing. Our friend paid a good chunk of money and planned a really special surprise for us, and it was handled very poorly; actually, not at all. A resort such as Sandals should've been able to appropriately deliver this surprise gift.
In closing, if you're looking for the typically huge, crowded, busy resort, Sandals Inn is not for you. You should try Montego Bay or Royal. But if you're looking for a modest, intimate place where you can enjoy a relaxing and quiet time and meet other couples and staff, Sandals Inn is great. Plus, you can jump on a shuttle to the others and enjoy their restaurants anytime. We really enjoyed our time, just be warned of the above CONS. Oh yeah.. and the proximity to the airport is very nice! It takes only five minutes to get there! The other Sandals, such as Ocho Rios or Negril are much further, we thought of that as a major CON for them.
