My wife and I traveled to Acapulco last summer and we stayed at the Boca Chica hotel mostly based on reviews from this website. First the pros:
-Price: we paid about 60 dollars and that included breakfast. Much cheaper than anywhere else we looked.
-Manager-I think he was the owner of the hotel, and he was very kind. It was raining the night we got there but we wanted to go eat some tacos, and he directed to a good place within walking distance and gave us an umbrella.
-Food: we only ate breakfast there, but it was quite good. Especially because it was included in the price. It was very authentic Mexican food and was a nice sit down atmosphere by the bay.
View- we had a great view from our balcony of the caletilla (bay)
The Cons
-The rooms are very old and kind of run down. They have concrete floors and the air conditioning does not work very well at all. The beds were rock hard. The bathroom was pretty old but it was clean.
-The beach next to the hotel was very dirty and not a great place to swim/play. There were a lot of fisherman and it smelled of rotting fish and the sand had a lot of glass in it. To sum up the beach "good from far, but far from good"
-The location is pretty far from downtown and out of the way. our taxi driver told us that it was the dangerous part of town. I felt ok having lived in Mexico a few years, but my wife was a little scared. A good point was that it was very quiet and not by any main roads. It was very close to "la Quebrada" which was a great attraction.
I gave the Boca Chica hotel an above average rating because for the price, you aren't going to find anything better. But if you are looking for a really nice place to stay and pamper yourself, this isn't the place. It isn't Americanized if that is what you are looking for.

“Lovley location, rubbish bed”

The hotel has a lovely location, and it was wonderful to be wake up and have a sea view from the room. Slight feeling from our stay, though, was that the rooms themselves had seen better days. The bed was on the verge of falling apart, and the shower and bathroom tiling were in serious need of a revamp.
However, as we got the room at a good discount on the internet, we were pretty happy overall. Great location and views made up for the inadequacies of the bedroom.

“Boca Chica Rocks!”

Boca Chica Hotel

Boca Chica is a great place to stay! My husband and I stayed there for a week and were sorry to leave when we finally did. The hotel is located on the western part of Acapulco. It is bordered by a beach and a cove and is directly across from Isla de La Roquesa. Easy access to zocalo by multiple, cheap buses, but far enough away to be quieter.
The hotel itself is a bit dated and basic, but very clean! Rooms have private bathroom/shower, cable TV, AC, and fantastic views of the Bay. There is also a lovely, well-kept garden on its grounds. The staff is pleasant and friendly and helpful (the front desk directed us on how to get to places and warned us when we should take taxi instead of bus, etc) and accomodate either English or Spanish. Boca Chica has a complimentary breakfast (American or Mexican food) and an outstanding -- allbeit a bit pricey -- seafood restaurant. (We normally don't eat at the same restaurant twice while on vacation, but did at Boca Chica!) Pool, too, and easy access to either the beach or cove waters.
I would consider this a great mid-range hotel with a definite Mexican feel to it. There were travelors from all over the world here, as well as many Mexican families.

“beautiful family run hotel”

Boca Chica Hotel

4/5 found this review helpful

This is a small, family run hotel in a more private part of Acapulco. We stayed in the honeymoon suite on the 3rd floor, which had amazing views. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and there is a beautiful pool on one side of the beachfront property, and private access to ocean swimming on the other side, with a bar and restaurant in between. Highly recommended!
