“I loved it - The Ultimate Review”

Buenaventura Grand Hotel and Spa

4 of 5 stars

Sorry it’s taken me so long to post my review. I relied heavily on trip advisor when booking my week in PV so I feel I owe it to Trip Advisor to post a real review. Remember that this hotel is a 3.5 Star not a 5 Star like some people expected.

What I loved:

LOCATION!! This hotel is a must if you’re going to be spending a lot of time downtown and in the clubs!!

It’s a 5 minute walk to the Malecon or a $4 taxi ride. One night my friend and I took a cab to the club instead of walking and I think walking is faster!!

A taxi to the Marina area (Christines and Collage are around here as well) will cost you about $5 - $7. Quick 5 minute drive.

Breakfast!! Made to Order Omlets are a must!! I think I had one every morning!! My friend loved the French Toast w/ Chocolate. Fresh Fruit w/ every meal! They serve breakfast till Noon which worked out well for me!! You can sleep in and still make it to breakfast.
Lunch was good too. They have a simple menu of Sandwiches, Nachos, Taco, Burgers. Good Mid-day snacking.
Dinner – Make sure to book as many restaurant dinners as you can!! When you’re all inclusive the restaurant dinners are a good deal. The Buffet was hit and miss. Some nights were great, others not so much.
Staff is great!! I miss you Pedro!!
Room Service – During the day it’s great, but during low-season they do not offer 11pm-6am service  If you get hungry they make sandwiches and leave them at the front desk for the late night munchers.

Booze – One word, Endless. Sorry two words, STRONG and ENDLESS!! Their drinks are always super strong and I never had a problem with the types of liquor. Some people have said you get the crappy liquor when you’re all inclusive, NOT TRUE!! You can have anything you want.

Rooms – Basic, clean. Our first room was horrible but I was ready for it from reading the reviews on here. The first room 1454 smelled musty/moldy. The smell made the room uncomfortable. When we walked down to reception they told us that they had rooms available but they were not cleaned yet so we had to come back the next day. Next day at 9am we checked in and they said wait till 2pm which we did and we were not let down!! We had a great room, 1232, two double beds (minus the ugly 80’s blankets!!) We had a mini fridge that was stocked daily. 4 beers 2 coke 2 diet coke 2 sprite and 4 waters. What more could you ask for? Big tv, wasn’t expecting that (a lot of good channels too!!)
Our room was always clean; I always left my stuff lying out, i.e. make-up, jewellery, purses, and money. Don’t worry, the maids are lovely and your stuff is not in danger. Make sure to tip well on your first night or two, sets the tone for the rest of the trip. Be good to the staff and they’ll be good to you. Fernanda at the front desk was awesome! Always helpful. Alvaro was helpful most of the time, some times he could care less.

The Pool – clean, nice temp. It was low-season when I went so I never had to worry about a towel or chair. The loungers in the pool are awesome if you’re not a swimmer. You can grab a drink and just hang out.

Nightly Entertainment – didn’t see much, I was usually getting ready to go out at that time. The guys – Alex and Julio who try to sell you tickets to go out can be helpful. We bought our Foam Party tickets from them, Alex tried to make a couple extra bucks off us but we met Julio who was way nicer. GIRLS – Don’t buy tickets for cover, girls usually get in free.

What I didn’t like so much…

The Beach, not swimmable. If you’re into laying on the beach and frolicking in the water go to Cancun. They rake the sand daily I think which makes it nice to walk around and stuff but it sucks that you can’t swim in front of your hotel. Sunsets are awesome though!! FOR ALL THE PEOPLE WHO COMPLAIN ABOUT BEACH VENDORS - Give me a break, you say No Gracias and they leave you alone, stop complaining.

No late-night room service sucks!!!

Concierge, Oh God… She never knew what I was talking about and I never knew what she was talking about. She speaks English but she’s just slow I think… Not in a mean way!!! You just have to tell her a few times and confirm a few more times to make sure everything works out okay. Fernanda at the front desk was super helpful, go to her with any questions.

Room 1454 – gross, don’t take it. I heard some people complaining about the rooms and beds and stuff but come on, it’s a 3.5 star hotel it’s not going to be like The Westin or The Sheraton.

Things to check out – Hilo, I fell in love with this club/bar. Small little club, plays Top 40 stuff. Drinks are the same as they are here in Vancouver. Coronas $5, Pina Colada $5. FOAM PARTY!! @ Collage - $35 cover and open bar!
Cheeky Monkey – Great view, $5 nachos!

Please msg me if you have any questions!

- I will try to upload pictures shortly

“Great romantic Honeymoon suite but noisy on club night”

Buenaventura Grand Hotel and Spa

The hotel seemed like a gateway from the business of downtown to the relaxing beach and ocean. We reserved the honeymoon suite with ocean view and even though there was some confusion at the desk, we were able to get our room without much hassle. The room was small but very nice, with a decorated canopy bed and jacuzzi bathtub with a pool and ocean view. We didn't eat at any of the restaurants but we returned from a lovely dinner to a hot tub full of bubbles and relaxed with the lights dimmed. Unfortunately there was a dance party in the pool area until about midnight so that was when the ocean facing room was a downfall. I was so relaxed though I fell asleep with no problem.

“services unfairly withheld- dishonest practices!”

Buenaventura Grand Hotel and Spa

We just retruned after a weeks stay at the Buenaventura Hotal & Spa. We chose this property because that they advertised all inclusive 24 hour food and beverage service, free 24 hour room service, 3 bars , 4 restaurants with an option to eat at their sister hotels at the Villa Primere and the Hacienda Hotel. Also we read some pretty good reviews from Trip Advisor. Unfortunately we encountered some significant problems getting the services offered and paid for.

Unfortunately as it's was the end of the season they decided to drastically scale back the services the day before we arrived. They closed all but one of the 4 restaurants, and two out of the three bars and scaled back the hours of the beach bar to 6pm instead of 11 pm, There was supposed to be 24 hour a day room service which they also decided to scale back to 7am to 1030 pm. After several meetings with the general manager, the food and beverage manager and the conciege they reluctanly decided to reopen room service for us but did not let most of the other quest know it was reinstated. The food and beverage service was also scaled back from a staff of 30 waiters up the 3rd week of May to a grand total of 5 and unfortunately the lack of service particularly at the beach and poolside was evident. We and the other guests had to go and get our own drinks and or had to flag down waiters for service especially at the poolside where we spent most of our time.

The buffet at breakfast was excellent, lots of fresh fruit, mexican food, waffles, pancakes, eggs made as desired, nice juices, brewed coffees, and other drinks on offer. Lunch and dinner buffet was uninspired to be polite. Bascially the same choices day after day, lot s of pototates, rice, chicken, highly buttered veggies and a basic salad bar. The buffet items were kind of cheap and unappealing. We were supposed to have two a la carte dinners per week but with the al la cate restaurants closed we were offered a specially prepared (surf and turf) dinner at a private dining area but it was kind of pathetic, three cold little schrimp and a weird steak that was not so great. We were sent for dinner at the sister hotel next door the Villa Primere Hotel which was incrediblly delicious and a huge treat! That was wonderful!

Basically we paid for a bunch of services and options that were not available. To get anything that was promised and already paid for we had to negotiate and fight for any little concesssion. It was really unfortnate and did not make make for a relaxing time. We found that most other couples experienced the same kind of things. What was advertised was not the reality and it just wasn't fair. If we got what was advertised it would have been a different story altogether.

The property was nice, great pools, good location, relaxing atmosphere and generally nice staff. I just hope they are a lot more considerate and honest with their guests as people won't return if they treat them the way we were treated last week. Kind of sad really as it could have been such a great trip without the unnecessary hassels. Just give us what we paid for, not anything more and don't make us fight for things we were supposed to be entitled to. Beware!

“Almost perfect”

My fiance and I stayed at the Buenaventura on the 18th of May and we left on the 20th. The location was perfect because it was right in downtown Puerto Vallarta. The only problem you will have is during check in. We reserved a honeymoon suite and was told it would be ready when we get there. We got to the hotel around 1pm and was told we had to wait until 3pm. They then told us to wait until 3:30pm. They then wanted us to take a regular room and we would get the honeymoon suite the next day. We then were very angry and told them that it was unacceptable. They did upgrade us to a jr. suite. The jr. suite is very nice and it also had a hot tub in the room. We also noticed that everybody that checked in had the same problem. They only have around 5 honeymoon suites and they would go over the numbers and then deal with the problem at that time.
Once we got our room 5 hours later, the stay was perfect. There is a little problem with ants in the room, but you will not be in your room long enough to notice. The food is great and the drinks are not waterd down. Make sure before you arrive at Buenaventura that they confirm that your room is ready.

I would like to thank you for your comments abut your recent stay at Buenaventura Grand Hotel & SPA.

We have 14 honeymoon suites and all of them are facing the ocean and have an interior Jacuzzi and private balcony, our check in time is 3 p.m., however we are very flexible and in order to provide an excellent service, if our guests arrive earlier and we have rooms available we don’t let them wait until check in time. As you were expecting your room since 1 p.m. we decided to offer you a free up grade to a higher room category to ensure a pleasant experience during your vacations.

Thank you for your comments about the service and food quality, our main goal is to exceed our clients expectations.

“not happy at all”

Buenaventura Grand Hotel and Spa

The staff there is great. However they lie about having 7 restaurants. The food is horrible. The location is wonderful . We stayed in the honeymoon suite which was nice. However the Tv didn't work 1/2 the time. The stereo was a mess. The room was nice and clean and the minibar was stacked all the time. I wouldn't stay there again. Also very very boring. They hardly ever played music. Also the beach is the horrible.

Thank you for your comments about your stay at Buenaventura Grand Hotel Spa.

As you mentioned we have an amazing staff and we are always working on improving our services and facilities in order to offer excellence in service and quality. This is why we have a great variety of activities and restaurants (4), 3 bars, 24 hr room service, 2 theme dinner per week and the options of using the facilities and all inclusive program at our sister property Hacienda Hotel & Spa which has restaurants and also one dinner per stay at Murales Gourmet Restaurant next door.

I would like to apologize for the inconveniences with the TV and the steros, we just did a 9 million dollar renovation and all Tv’s and stereos are new and now are working perfectly.

Thank you again for your comments and we will be very pleased if you stay with us on your next visit to our beautiful destination.
