My wife and I stayed at the Sofitel Montreal for 4 nights in January 2006. The hotel was great and we would stay there again in a heartbeat. It was easily on par with some of the other luxury hotels in the area, but at half the price. We got a great deal on hotels.com.

We had a corner room, very well appointed. The beds were extremely comfortable and the bathroom was impressive. They had a very adequate fitness center. The front desk was very helpful suggesting restaurants and helping us navigate the underground city.

The parking was a bit expensive, but parking in any major city will be. Overall an awesome choice for the money.

I really resent hotels these days that charge:
$15 per day for Internet
$11 for a pint of Guinness ($6.50 in Calgary)
...and doesn't have a coffee perc in the room in order to force you to use room service at $10 per large pot. (+plus the room service charge and the "gratuity", like - thanks for the "service" Sofitel!)

Rooms were great, service in restaurant and bar excellent, but they boost the rev par by gouging customers for these things that we are now taking for granted. I get free hi-speed and a coffee machine in a Days Inn for Pete's sake!

I will never voluntarily stay at a Sofitel, Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons, all of whom feel that they can grind their customers like this.

Very nice hotel, location is great (right in the centre), and very good service. A well-recommended hotel to stay.
(if I had to criticise one thing, it would be the Hotel/restaurant Renoir.. service is poor and food VERY expensive. I personnally thing it is overstated and not worth it. It is better to go in a restaurant downtown.

rooms are not that big..but loved everything else about it!! very very clean...convenient location, great environment and great staff...must stay!
