It is a pretty church but the reasons to come here are for the Michelangelo "Madonna and Child" as well as the museum. Entry to the Church and the statue is free. There is a small fee for the museum. The museum includes much of the church's artwork. Also included are excavated tombs and an exhibit on Emperor Charles V, and this exhibit explains much of the history of the region, such as the Habsburg domination of Flanders, and with the exhibit long explanations in several langauges, including English, are provided. This is the most interesting religious site in Bruges. You can see the Michelangelo and the church in 10 minutes, but to include the museum, plan for an hour. Photography is permitted in the Church but not in the museum.

I have been to so many churches and this one absolutely blew me away. I have been to Notre Dame, Sacre Couer and many local churches in Paris but I LOVED this church.
I had a very hard time leaving as I truly felt the presence of God in this church. Laugh if you will but I have been in so many churches looking for God and I found him here.
I have never had an experience like this, the pulpit is the most magnificent I have ever encountered anywhere. You must see this church before you die. My goal is to go back and just be able to spend time sitting there, not speaking, not thinking, just being there.
