“Danae is a great hotel”

My wife and I have just returned from 6 nights at the Danae Hotel , on Aegina island. The Hotel was easily accessible from the port, only a 10 minute walk or 3 to 4 minutes in a taxi (3 Euros).

The staff are very friendly and helpful and our room, which was overlooking the pool with a glorious seaview, while not the largest we have stayed in, was nevertheless very clean and comfortable.

There is daily maid service with towels being changed every day and the bed linen twice weekly. As we visited in April the temperature was not a problem, but there is air-conditioning in all rooms.

Breakfast is served in a conservatory style room which is light and airy and there is a good selection of cereals, fruit, bread, juice, coffee, ham, cheese and pastries.

The pool is child friendly with a shallow end, and surrounded by non-slip wooden decking.

There are a numvber of reasonably priced tavernas within 10 minutes walk, and further into town a large selection of cafes, bars and shops.

Great place to stay for good food, wonderful scenery and a relaxed pace of life.

“Nice view, bad rooms and unfriendly”

Hotel Danae

We came to Aegnina a family of four, our boys are 7 and 11.
We had a nice view from the balcony over the see. The ground floor have not. We had a familyroom (two dobblerooms and a bathroom) with tiny beds , a grand-lit and two singelbeds that were short. The good thing was that the beds were hard. The air-con did not work, also not the telephone.
The worse was the staffs totally unfriendly behavior. Not even our 7 year old made them smile before the last night. And he IS sweet when he try. The hotel was nice for children over 4 years old. The gate was always open so smaller children might be in danger of the trafic, and also the pools deep water.
The warm food in the resturant was cold and uninteresting and the breakfast was awful. We did order half board but change our mind fast.
Trip to Athens is expensive and takes some time, but worth it.(its 6 Euro for the slow charming boat, 11 with fast and ugly one + train from Pireus is 3 euros) Its easy to find your way around the port.
Danea lies in a comfortable walking distanse to town and many resturants. What ever you do, don't eat at the first resturant (fish mainy) at right hand, they cheat seriously. They made us pay for dishes we didn't get. This happend to more people we met,and arguing did not help.
The best resturants is father of, if you pass the ferries and find the small resturants close to the fishmarked on the marina and in the small streets. Look for the greek people.
And yes it was flews in my bed at Danea, maybe from the romantic birdsnest. But we din't complaine on this.
All in all: if you want to stay on a irland close to Athens in a genuine town Danea is the best hotel, if you need a swimmingpool. There are lots of rooms in town that might be better, but without pool and view.
Don't expect too much and dont pay the given price.
And the staff did turn nice after 5 days, we even got a smile.

July 06. Just returned from staying at Danae Hotel and would thoroughly recommend it. Extremely clean, excellent staff - very helpful and friendly and spoke very good english. The hotel is a ten minute walk from the centre of Aegina town but it's worth it!

“Great family run hotel”

We arrived early in the season, a time when the island is very pleasant, but the rstaurants are limited. The Danae is a walk into town. It boasts a nice pool and clean rooms. However what made it special were the staff and owners. Nothing was too hard to do. For example, although they were not yet open for dinner, the chef came in specially to cook our last meal on Aegina. It was also our best. We would recommend the Danae and its helpful staff.
