“Great location!!”

Scandic Continental

4 of 5 stars
London, United Kingdom
Oct 12, 2008

Hotel is literally across the main train station. Lots of places to eat around the area, too! Hotel is clean, loved the 60's interior. Food was nice, good room service. Staff were friendly. Bathrroms just need a little updating, but it was all good. I didn't have a major problem with anything at this hotel, I wouldn't mind going back.

“Not family friendly”

Scandic Continental

Oct 4, 2008

We (me, my husband, my 2 year old daughter) stayed at this hotel for two nights and had chosen the place because it was said to be a family friendly hotel.
We were given a two-bed room at the 3rd floor that smelled stale and looked like something that might have been pretty in the early nineties. The furniture was scratched and the door of the bathroom was dented and scratched in several places. The beds were/looked clean but had a used, sour-sweetish smell that reminded me of the smell in old gymnasiums (many peoples' sweat, not efficient cleaning). There was a clean and ok crib for the child.
Soon after our arrival we went downstairs to try out the children's play-room. On asking at reception, the lady just pointed into the direction of the room and said "There!". Then she went on with whatever she had to do. In a general sense I got the impression that customers are treated differently as the gentlemen before me (on a business-trip) was treated with all the friendliness you would expect.
The children-room was a Five (!!) square meter windowless "cell" with some plastic children-chairs plus a couple of books (in Swedish) and a handfull of building blocks. A blackboard on one side of the room could not be used and was dirty.
The staff is arrogant if you have a question about sights of the city and how to get there.
Do not expect a smile from anyone or a greeting.
The children chairs in the breakfast rooms are dirty and do not get cleaned even on request.
Do not ask information from the reception and expect a friendly answer.
The staff is not trained in how to deal with customers.
Feedback was asked from us at check-out (which is too late, because then the manager wanted to talk to us. That meant waiting for him to finish a call etc... so it was even more hassle for us)
We will simply not go back there.
Everything apart from what I mention here was ok.
Nothing more nor less.

“A room so small you'd have to leave to change your mind”

Scandic Continental

2 of 5 stars
College Park, Georgia

The Beatles stayed at this hotel in 1963, and in some instances, The Scandic Continental hasn't updated its decor since then. What updates have been made seem to have come from the clearance area at IKEA. All is not bad, however, and in some ways, this hotel is a good value.

This review regards the cabin accommodations, available for single travelers. Stockholm is one of the most expensive cities in the world, and when that is considered, a single cabin at the Scandic Continental might prove a good choice for the money.

The hotel has an amazingly convenient location--right across from Central Station, the T-Bahn subway, and the terminus for the airport bus and train. One of Sweden's most noteworthy department store is a block away, and the old town, Gamla Stan, is a ten minute walk. Besides, the hotel offers complimentary bike rental to guests, so getting around is quite easy--and this is a very bike friendly city.

A single room in a hostel in Stockholm can run $100 or more, so the $110 rate here, including breakfast, tax, wifi, and bike rental, is a bargain. (The hotel information notes a fitness center, but the facility is essentially some free weights and an exercise bike. Membership to a nearby gym is available for free--better, but still a bit lacking) Breakfast, while filling enough, is a bit depressing--served in a mess hall style setting, and stocked from a buffet.

The accommodations are among the smallest I've ever seen--but nicely proportioned and well thought out. The main part of the room measured 7 feet by 7 feet, enough for a single bed, cabinetry built in, a chair, and a mounted TV. Bed is comfortable and the duvet is plush. The cabin is lined in mirrors to make the space more palatable, and this works. There is no closet, and only minimal cabinet space under the bed. The bathroom is just big enough to function in, but the shower is robust. Soap and shower gel come out of dispensers that are wall mounted--no individual soap bars or bottles of shampoo here. Wake up calls come from your television set. The decor is that of a mothballed cruise ship--a bit dated, and more than a bit worn. All is clean though, but for a huge stain on my carpet.

The staff is friendly enough, and all speak excellent English.

I'd recommend the hotel to single travelers who want the facilities of a full service hotel at a more advantageous price. And for all, the location cannot be beat.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — Amazing location, good value in an expensive city, comfy beds, shower water pressure, free wifi, use of mirrors to make small space more roomy
    • Disliked — Room was really tiny, no closet, poor fitness center, tired decor in public areas, wall mounted soap and shampoo, no windows or views in room, twin bed.

“So-so”

Scandic Continental

4 of 5 stars
Singapore

Got one of their so-called budget single rooms on their website for 495SEK a night and stayed for 2 rooms. Booking process was straightforward.

Hotel is in a very convenient location if you're coming from the airport, as it is right across the street from the Arlanda Express train station, where you can catch a 20 minute ride to/from the airport. Or, if you're cheap like I am, you can catch the airport bus from the central bus terminal, just diagonally across from the hotel.
'
There's also an entrance to the key interchange station on the city's subway station right around the corner, but if you're going to the main tourist attractions like Gamla Stan and the City Hall, and the main shopping areas, it's all within walking distance.

My room was small, but good enough for a single traveller. Single bed, small bathroom, window facing a "side street" that was not all that quiet. Nonetheless was able to sleep quite OK.

Hotel staff are friendly enough. Breakfast was so-so. In general the hotel looks a bit tired but the location and rate I got made up for it.

“Efficient service and central location but no charm”

Scandic Continental

3 of 5 stars
Copenhagen
Jul 29, 2008

My husband and I stayed in room 727 for 2 nights. It is spacious for scandinavian standard. However, it has 2 single beds, so we had to 'combine' them. There were no noise at all and we slept very well. There's a small tv but who wants to watch tv anyway? we hardly in the room except sleeping time.

The bathroom is very clean and comes with a small bath tub as well.

There are only 2 computers in the lobby for free use. The reception is fast and efficient. The breakfast is opened from 7-11am. It is good; very wide selection and they also offer organic choices.

What i like most about the hotel? Location! It is just so close to the shopping street or walking street. Thus very close to the royal palace and old town. It is in front of main station and arlanda express. But the location is not so charming as that area is a hangout place for junkies, conmen or alcoholics. But stockholm is very safe city to walk around. So you have nothing to worry.

What do i hate about the hotel? One should not expect charms from the hotel. Cause there are none. Service is just efficient and fast BUT don't expect greetings, smiles or even thank you. Actually none of the employees there smiled during my 2 day stay - eg. reception, kitchen, waitress etc.. The carpet was changed recently so it looks abit new. But all furniture are still old. Even the duvet's color is a bit faded.

The rates is affordable (for scandinavian standard - this is actually ok).
