My partner and I and another family member stayed at the Rex for 2 nights in February 2008. As soon as we walked in we were impressed! The reception area is very plain, but has a very warm feeling to it. There is a computer in one corner, which allows you free internet access at anytime of the day or night. When we arrived the computer was not working, so they allowed us to go to the hotel across the road and use their internet for free. This was very handy. But the computer was up and running the day after we got there!
The elevator was tiny and we could only fit one person and 2 suitcases in at once, but the stairs are conveniently located so it's not an issue to use them.
Our room was fantastic. We were very happy with it. Quite large and very clean. There was a queen size bed and the bed for the 3rd person was only a roll out, which was a shame because we were expecting a second full size bed in the room. The roll out was not very comfortable and it was uneven. So that was the only downfall with our stay. There was a tv in the room with a variety of channels to choose from. The bathroom and shower were a little small, but not a problem.
Breakfast was included in our room rate. There was a large variety of food each morning. The breakfast room was not very big, but it didn't cause any problems as there didn't seem to be too many people eating there at once.
The hotel is situated one street back from the main street (Sveavagen) and was close enough to most of the major attractions/sights that you can walk almost everywhere (if you have a reasonable level of fitness). From the hotel to the main shopping area, it was about a 15 minute walk, and the Royal Palace was another 5-10 minutes past that. We didn't realise that Stockholm is actually made up of a series of small islands so you cross lots of bridges when you are walking and get to see lots of other nice things along the way! If you are not keen on walking so much, the train system seemed good.
Overall, a good hotel in the city and I would definately stay here again.
Tip: there are a few different options for transport t from the airport to the city. We found it was more convenient for us to get a taxi direct to our hotel. If you are travelling in a small group I would highly recommend this as you get dropped off right at your door. But be we aware that not all taxi's charge the same amount to get to the city. Make sure you look on the side windows of the taxi's where they advertise their prices. You can get some for just under SEK400 (we were charged SEK550) and only realised when we saw another taxi in town!!!!
