“Great Choice”

Just returned from a long weekend at the fabulous Rex hotel. It is a lovely quaint hotel just a short walk away from the metro station and shopping area.

Our twin room was clean and reasonably sized with a lovely modern bathroom, including a walk in shower. The hotel is located on a quiet street so there was no noise at all.

The Rex is a converted 1860's town house and has maintained a good balance between the old and new. The hotel has a great ambience with very friendly and helpful staff. Thanks to their recommendations, we spent a lovely afternoon exploring Vaxholm, the capital of the archipeligo, a trip I would certainly recommend.

The majority of sights are within walking distance of the Rex hotel, however the hop-on hop-off boat tour did add another dimension to the sight-seeing.

Another tip from the staff at Rex was that it's cheaper to buy metro tickets from the ticket machines rather than the kiosks. We found that the metro tickets were at least 10SEK more expensive if purchased at the ticket booth.

All in all a fantastic hotel in a brilliant location. Would certainly recommend to anyone travelling to Stockholm.

“Highly recommended!”

Just back from Stockholm and stayed at the Rex which I'd highly recommend. The staff were exceptionally helpful, especially Sandra (who helped us with a car hire problem!). The room and hotel in general was very clean and the continental breakfast very good. The only drawback was the furniture in the breakfast room which was slightly fragile!!

The location is within easy walking distance to main attractions and we would definitely return!

Worth mentioning, is that we got 3 nights for the price of 2 through a website (think Hotels.com) and hence made it a bargain so do the research!

“great small hotel”

Great small hotel on a quiet side street. The hotel is one block from the subway and main shopping street but our room was very quiet. The room was light and spacious with a beautiful, small, bathroom. We'll stay here again on our next visit.

“Great Place”

Rex Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Dublin, Ireland
Jun 30, 2008

Really liked this hotel. Stayed here for 4 nights with my girlfriend. We found it to be in a good location and the staff were great.

The location is about 15 minutes away from the main shopping area walking straight down Sveavagen. The hotel is on a quiet street just off this main street so there wasn't too much noise. Although one evening we were treated to some aspiring singer in an apartment close by trying to reach a note that, given all the time in the world, they simply weren't going to reach!
Plenty of bars and restaurants around the area. Would particularly recommend the indian restaurant down the road. Best indian I've had anywhere and reasonable prices. We went there two of the nights we were in Stockholm. Just go left out of the hotel door and its on the right about 2 minutes walk away.

The atmosphere of the hotel is very relaxed, which was great. The staff were friendly and looked after us well. The Rex itself doesn't have a residents bar but its sister hotel across the road does. We had a few drinks to finish off the day over there on a couple of the nights. Its a nice relaxing spot with very comfortable leather couches. It closes for cash at 10pm but you can add drinks to your bill even if you're over at the Rex.

The room we had was small enough and on the top floor. But it was fine for our needs. The shower was a bit disappointing, not being very powerful. That was probably due to being on the top floor so maybe the showers on lower floors are a bit better. The TV in the room was good aswell and had a decent selection of channels.

The only real downer was the breakfast. Not much of a choice and also only on from 7-9 on weekdays. Only went down for it once. Cereal, some bread and jams but that was about it. Juice and tea/coffee was of course available aswell.

Stockholm itself is a great place. Plenty to see and do. Great shopping, great people.

“Fantastic”

Rex Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Brisbane, Australia

My partner and I and another family member stayed at the Rex for 2 nights in February 2008. As soon as we walked in we were impressed! The reception area is very plain, but has a very warm feeling to it. There is a computer in one corner, which allows you free internet access at anytime of the day or night. When we arrived the computer was not working, so they allowed us to go to the hotel across the road and use their internet for free. This was very handy. But the computer was up and running the day after we got there!

The elevator was tiny and we could only fit one person and 2 suitcases in at once, but the stairs are conveniently located so it's not an issue to use them.

Our room was fantastic. We were very happy with it. Quite large and very clean. There was a queen size bed and the bed for the 3rd person was only a roll out, which was a shame because we were expecting a second full size bed in the room. The roll out was not very comfortable and it was uneven. So that was the only downfall with our stay. There was a tv in the room with a variety of channels to choose from. The bathroom and shower were a little small, but not a problem.

Breakfast was included in our room rate. There was a large variety of food each morning. The breakfast room was not very big, but it didn't cause any problems as there didn't seem to be too many people eating there at once.

The hotel is situated one street back from the main street (Sveavagen) and was close enough to most of the major attractions/sights that you can walk almost everywhere (if you have a reasonable level of fitness). From the hotel to the main shopping area, it was about a 15 minute walk, and the Royal Palace was another 5-10 minutes past that. We didn't realise that Stockholm is actually made up of a series of small islands so you cross lots of bridges when you are walking and get to see lots of other nice things along the way! If you are not keen on walking so much, the train system seemed good.

Overall, a good hotel in the city and I would definately stay here again.

Tip: there are a few different options for transport t from the airport to the city. We found it was more convenient for us to get a taxi direct to our hotel. If you are travelling in a small group I would highly recommend this as you get dropped off right at your door. But be we aware that not all taxi's charge the same amount to get to the city. Make sure you look on the side windows of the taxi's where they advertise their prices. You can get some for just under SEK400 (we were charged SEK550) and only realised when we saw another taxi in town!!!!
