“Friendly Foleys”

Foley's Guesthouse

Aug 6, 2008

My wife and I didn't stay at Foleys but we ate their and the food and service was great but best part of our visit was the help I was given for a back injury I sustained the day before when I fell in Connors Pass.Pat Foley helped me see a doctor that night and provided every hospitaltity possible. When I entered the restaurant my back stiffened up and I couldn't sit,Pat saw this and helped me sit down. His help was incredible and we are very appreciative of it.If in Kenamre I highly recomend going to Foleys for great service, people, and food.Even though I was in pain the food was to good to not eat even though my back was killing me.

“great location, average rooms, awful breakfast”

Foley's Guesthouse

Stayed here for a weekend at the end of April, on the positive side Foleys is very central, has a decent bar downstairs and the place is spotless. It is fair to say all of the staff are helpful and friendly - if a little bit overbearing, as mentioned in another review.
On the downside for the money you pay (90 euros) the rooms could do with some updating but worst of all the breakfast was appalling. The traditional Irish breakfast looked and tasted 48 hours old and as if it had been scraped out of a bin - i would be slow to stay here again on this basis and would pay the extra elsewhere or walk the 10 minutes into town.
An overhaul of the rooms and the breakfast would definitely pay dividends for Foleys. At present the place feels like a cash cow sitting in the middle of Kenmare and living off its location rather than realising its potential.

Well if you are at all lucky enough to get to Kenmare, Foley's Guesthouse is a must. The rooms are very clean and tidy - TV, phone, and for us Yanks face cloths!

The entire staff are fabulous, everyone was so helpful be it with where to go, what to see and there is no need to book any other restaurant as there restaurant and bar had awesome food! Great portions and wonderful selection.

One has to go there when they have live music. I had music 4 nights. Dan the man played and it was like reliving my youth with all the songs... a must see!

All in all, I'll be back to Foley's again and again....and have told all my friends.

“Clean rooms but rude staff”

Foley's Guesthouse

We stayed at Foley's for one night and had a bit of a bad experience in the restaurant. On arrival the staff were courteous and we were shown to a clean but small en-suite room which looked out on an industrial staircase and concrete roof. The room was travel lodge style in so far as having the trademark furniture, brown blankets on the bed and the traditional travel lodge bedspread - not much individual character or homeliness, but it wasn't too exopensive so I suppose you get what you pay for.
There were no tea and coffee making facilities even though the room info suggested there should be some - I asked at reception but the staff member just couldn't (or wouldn't) understand what I was talking about thinking I wanted hot water for a cup. So we gave up.
We were afraid that the room would be noisy but fortunately we heard no sound from the bar and restaurant but the radiator in the room never appeared to come on and it was so cold I had to sleep in walking socks and a jumper.
We decided to eat at the restaurant and I went up to the bar to enquire as to the process of ordering food. When I finally got someone's attention I asked do we order at the bar? At the table? Sit anywhere in particular etc. (I am always a very polite person.) The response I got was an exasperated "What?!" as if I was making no sense and the waiter/bar man proceeded to somehow misunderstand me telling me through gritted teeth, a raised tone and on the edge of his temper that he would be with me in 5 minutes - OK?!!!! As if I was being demanding or greatly inconveniencing him. When I tried to explain again, he continued to hiss instructions at me and I went to sit down as I was angrily told to do but was so shocked that I just had to leave. I just would not have enjoyed the meal.
In the morning the same waiter served us breakfast in a totally over the top , friendly manner - I was so uncomfortable I just couldn't wait to check out and go. Sadly it wasn't the holiday experience I had hoped for and I felt very deflated and sad about it.

“Affordable, fun and in the middle of town”

Foley's Guesthouse

What a great place. It's a quality, clean B&B and a fun pub & resxtaurant. Food was good pub food. Nothing fantastic but consistently good. There was no noise from the bar that kept us awake and the breakfast was fresh and filling. The staff was kind and helpful.

What is best is it's location. You are right by the shops, restaurants and other pubs so it was easy to drop off packages and then continue to shop. Easy access to the ROK and national forrest. Kenmare is really a beautiful village. If you plan to stay, try to be there a couple days. You'll really want to soak up the town.

As I mentioned in my other reviews...I tend to give most of the nice places a 4 rating and hold back on the 5s for the truly exceptional. This was an above average place to stay and I would readily recommend it to anyone...especially for the price.
