“so much for the full Irish Breakfast....”

We recently spent a night here on a return trip to my home country. It was the one night my husband and I managed to get away on our own leaving our little ones with family to mind for the night. On arrival we were very pleased with our room although I had asked for a double room expecting a queen or king size room but instead we were placed in a room with 2 double beds which did actually seem quite short to my husband and I and believe me we are not outrageously tall! none the less, the room was pleasent with nice bathroom etc.
However the big disappointment came at breakfast time. On booking I was told that the E55 (euro) per person rate included a full Irish breakfast so my husband and I were really looking forward to it. Instead we were met by a very sulky unfriendly hostess (not an Irish person) who motioned to a table set up with 2 types of cereal, some warm milk and juice and and a bowl that contained a few pieces of fruit (the fruit bowl was not replaced whilst we were there). The waitress advised that breakfast included bacon, egg and sausage and of course we could have our eggs what ever way we wanted. I guess I just assumed that the breakfast would have black and white pudding and tomatoe as this is what I have always known a "Full Irish Breakfast" to contain. However this is not so, we got 2 tasteless sausages, 2 pieces of bacon and my poached eggs were so hard they could have bounced off the floor. We got a basket containing 2 slices of toast for 2 adults....now that is a bit mean in my opinion.....where was the soda bread. I must say it was a huge disappointment and had I known I would have just requested a room only rate and had breakfast out at the lovely Preago or Jam cafes. To be honest I feel 55 Euro was a bit much especially considering the breakfast. I contemplated raising this with the lady we paid on departure but her demeanour was equally sulky and unfriendly and I was in no mood for a confrontation on our only break away. I must say it was a big let down.

“Marvelous Experience!”

Coachmans Townhouse Hotel

Oct 8, 2007

We booked 2 rooms for one night at Coachman's in the very heart of lovely Kenmare right on Henry Street.

Each room had 2 king size beds, by far the most spacious rooms we had in our entire Ireland trip. Very clean and modern, the rooms and entire property looked brand new. Nice size and immaculate bathroom.

The rooms are over their bar/restaurant, but they are located towards the back so you don't hear any noise at all. Plus music is done by 11:00 pm.

We had a great time listening to live music. We were treated to tradional music played by an excellent accordion player. What great entertainers the Irish are!

We also had a very good dinner there. The traditional Irish breakfast was also good.

The owners are wondeful people and greeted us with a smile and were truly concerned with our having a great time there. They engaged us in conversation and made us feel very welcome.

This was the very best B&B/hotel experience of our entire stay in Ireland. So when in Kenmare, we highly recommend that you book at Coachman's. You will not regret it.

Thanks to the Coachman family including staff member Kevin Foley for 2 great nights of Irish hospitaility! We booked this trip based on earlier TripAdvisor recommendation and feel extremely confident recommending family attendance.

As a frequent flyer for work I have never taken the time to provide feedback about a hotel stay...but I have also NEVER had a host provide guidance on safe driving alternatives. For Americans, driving in Ireland is a challenge, left side, stick shift, speed in kilometers, SHEEP! We learned alternative directions for touring on regional road through Coachman family and they even helped us investigate bookings for our next segments of the trip including calling for reservations.

Do not be concerned that rooms are above restuarant / bar...fabulous design allows separate security entrance (key card) and most importantly newly-designed layout (just over a year old renovation) assured that we rested comfortably. with no outside interruption Place includes elevator - a rarity in Ireland for multi-level housing Family room was "luxurious" for 2 adults, one high school red head and BC eagle that included 2 large king beds and pull out couch, great linens and BEST shower we experienced during week in Ireland. We later learmed facilty was sold out and we would never suspect -we thought owned the place. Both nights we enjoyed live music (one night traditional Irish tunes, the other night "karoake" variety of American and other pop culture) among a mix of listener ages and both mornings we enjoyed yummy breakfast and attentive service for breakfast. Late nights allowed for cold pint and access to good size TVs for catching up on U.S. sports' scores back home (go cubs)

The facilty is centrally located in towm, great shops, welcoming dinners nearbye. We parked in public parking lots with no problem. Counting the days until our return. Continued success to this family business.

“Elegance and Comfort”

Padraig and sister Siobhan (spelling?) were the most accommodating host/hostess I have ever dealt with in all my B&B travels. As for the establishment, it is centrally located and provides the best of both worlds - the warmth of a Irish B&B with the elegance of a luxury hotel. The rooms were renovated a year ago and are absolutely beautiful. And if you're a fan of Irish music, they provide the best talent in town in the pub. I highly recommend The Coachman and will, no doubt, plan to visit again.

Our family of four stayed here for three nights. We welcomed the modern amenities and very large room. We had a room with a king, two twins and a pull-out couch. The property was rebuilt 11/2 years ago so it is fresh and new. The property also has a great location on the main thoroughfare. Restaurant is great and the local music was wonderful.
