We stayed in the Hilgrove for one night. Literally the night, because we were afraid to catch some skinaffection or something like that in our room. Fortunately we could leave the next morning because we had a fly-drive vacation.
From the moment we walked in there was a penetrating smell of fungus/mould in the lobby, which was even worse in our room.
When we took one of the pillows from the bed there were stains on it and it was covered with human hair. The bed was obviously not changed and the bathroom was dirty.
We reported it and the staff apologized. We immediately got another room which certainly should be clean, we could check it ourselves. At first sight it looked clean so we agreed......but shortly after the manager left we found out that it was not better than the room we left. The toilet was dirty, hairs sticking in and all around the seating. Even toiletpaper still in it. There was still toothpaste in the glasses. The bathroom was so dirty in all the edges as if it wasn't cleaned for more than a year. We didnt take a shower and we didn't walk barefoot in the room or the bathroom.
The mould was growing on the ceiling, there were (pubic) hairs in our bed, cobwebs in the windowframe. . And then the constant smell of mould. We turned all the bedlinnen inside out and waited as long as possible before finally going to bed.
It was a horrible experience. We didn't ask for another room anymore, because we assumed that it wouldn't make any difference and the defenition of "clean" was measured by another standard then what we were used to. Because of all what we had seen we decided to skip the breakfast and just take a cup of coffee.
