“Horrible”

Hillgrove Hotel

Aug 8, 2008

We stayed in the Hilgrove for one night. Literally the night, because we were afraid to catch some skinaffection or something like that in our room. Fortunately we could leave the next morning because we had a fly-drive vacation.

From the moment we walked in there was a penetrating smell of fungus/mould in the lobby, which was even worse in our room.
When we took one of the pillows from the bed there were stains on it and it was covered with human hair. The bed was obviously not changed and the bathroom was dirty.
We reported it and the staff apologized. We immediately got another room which certainly should be clean, we could check it ourselves. At first sight it looked clean so we agreed......but shortly after the manager left we found out that it was not better than the room we left. The toilet was dirty, hairs sticking in and all around the seating. Even toiletpaper still in it. There was still toothpaste in the glasses. The bathroom was so dirty in all the edges as if it wasn't cleaned for more than a year. We didnt take a shower and we didn't walk barefoot in the room or the bathroom.
The mould was growing on the ceiling, there were (pubic) hairs in our bed, cobwebs in the windowframe. . And then the constant smell of mould. We turned all the bedlinnen inside out and waited as long as possible before finally going to bed.
It was a horrible experience. We didn't ask for another room anymore, because we assumed that it wouldn't make any difference and the defenition of "clean" was measured by another standard then what we were used to. Because of all what we had seen we decided to skip the breakfast and just take a cup of coffee.

“Needs to be refurbished... BIGTIME”

Hillgrove Hotel

Jul 7, 2008

I stayed there on a hen party recently and although we had a great time, the hotel was not great. From the minute we walked into the lobby there was a smell of damp. The rooms were not very clean and they could badly do with putting down new carpet, paint the walls and put in a new bathroom suite. The place is in need of serious refurbishment !!! The nightcub is well laid out though as there is one side of the club that plays chart music and the other side of the club plays 80's and disco tunes. The staff were extremely nice though. I would not recommend staying there but good for a boggie on the dancefloor!!

We had the best service and breakfast here. Little hard to find, the sign was overgrown and the outside was being painted, but an overal wonderful experience.

“Just ok”

I stayed at the Hillgrove Hotel with my three children in August '06. My fault, I didn't decide to book into Dingle until very late so the Hillgrove was one of the few places that could accommodate me with the late booking.

On the plus side: very good location, easy to park, short stroll into town, nice little guest lounge.

Negatives: our rooms were kind of dirty. The beds were comfortable, though. I imagine it could be very loud on a nightclub night but the night we were there the club was not open. We rang to get in and no one responded. Ultimately we hunted around and found a young girl who checked us in. I don't believe I ever met the owner.

Another plus: one of the best breakfasts I had on our trip - smoked salmon w/ scrambled eggs.

If you are traveling with children I guess I'd stay there if the club is closed.

“Great Music, good Hotel.”

Hillgrove Hotel

The Hillgrove Hotel is a nice normal clean & friendly Hotel. It boast the only nightclub in Dingle & having been to a number of other nightclubs in both Dublin & Cork i would have no hesitation in recommending this one simply because of the music. It caters for all tastes from the latest club tracks to some golden oldies 60s,70s & 80s. So no matter what age you are or what type of music your into you'll def hear a track that you like. While it can be a bit pricey on the door charge i would still give this club 9/10!
