Looked good on the net. Very different once we got there. Looks like a place in a lovely spot. In reality it is in the middle of a grimy estate. We arrived and it looked like the place was abandoned. Finally got an answer from the fron the front door and unbelievably we were directed to stay in another house down the road. I travel quite a bit and my standards are not necessarily 5 star. Nevertheless this place was simply disgarceful. Good luck for those who've booked.

We spent very nice holiday in The Old Historic Cable House. It is very nice old house with beautiful clean rooms, friendly staff and very good cooking. Alan and Margaret Browns (owners) are very nice and friendly people, who can talk to you about anything and make you good time there. I have to recommend to anybody to stay there and enjoy his holiday as we did.

“Warm Hospitality, History, Excellent Location”

The Old Cable Historic House

Sep 22, 2008

Just a few reason why The Old Cable Historic House is the perfect "home away from home" to explore the rugged beauty of the Ring of Kerry.

Margaret and Alan make you feel part of the family from the moment you arrive at this historic place that housed families of engineers, etc., responsible for the first transatlantic cable.

Clean, bright, and comfortable rooms. Delicious daily breakfast to get you going.

Margaret is a font of knowledge. Her enthusiasm makes you want to follow all her recommendations.

Enjoy the beautiful sunsets and great pubs of Waterville. Don't miss the boat trip to the Skelligs with Michael O'Sullivan!
Get lost in Kerry Way!

READY TO GO BACK VERY SOON.

“Great Place to Stay”

The Old Cable Historic House

Sep 22, 2008

The Old Cable House is a very good B&B. The owners are friendly and attentive to the needs of their guests. Breakfast was a real treat with a variety of options on offer. Other meals we have eaten there on past visits to the area were also excellent.
Save on booking fees and contact the establishment directly.

“Old Cable Historic House - THE NICEST B&B”

The Old Cable Historic House

Aug 27, 2008

My sister and I stayed for two nights in the "Samuel Morse" room and enjoyed every bit of the hospitality from the owners, Margaret and Alan, who served up warmth, cheer, and a hearty welcome along with a tasty big traditional Irish breakfast. The Cable House offers not only authentic Irish cheer but also authentic history - it housed engineers and operators of the first transatlantic cable. Fascinating piece of history for me since I graduated from Cooper Union School of Engineering in New York and the history of the founder/ benefactor of the college, Peter Cooper (a wealthy industrialist), who was also a major investor in the laying of the cable and served as the first president of the company that operated the cable. One of the best features of the B&B was that it housed so many historical artifacts- Margaret even showed me the engineering records of the cable laying! Conveniently, the beach and town center are within a 2 minute walk.
