“Enjoy Dublin But Stay Here!”

Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel Dublin

In Dublin on business for 1 night I chose not to stay in the city and opted for Fitzpatrick's Castle instead.
I cannot recommend this hotel enough - beautiful, peaceful, clean, superb staff and a great setting.
Whether on holiday, on a stop off or on business you must consider this hotel as an option.
You must however do your travel homework. Do NOT get a taxi from the airport, charges are extortionate. Get the 747 bus which leaves every 10 mins and takes only 30 minutes to O Connel Street (6 Euro Single). there is a tourist info right by the bus stop.
grab a desk top map (free) and head for Tara Street (5 minutes walk) unless you want to go shopping - in which case head for Grafton St over the bridge. Take a look at the massive 'spike' as you go. At Tara street jump on the Dart South (2.5Euro single) and head for Dalkey. do not get off at Killiney like I did! it is a 25 minute serious uphill walk from there; the only bonus being you pass Bono's house and huge gates and later you see Enya's Castle. It is a 15 min stroll from the lovely Dalkey or hop in a taxi.
Get a sea view if you can.
Only 1 tiny complaint - the bedding is for Captain Scott, in June I was far too hot by far.
A really great alternative to the City - lovely hotel, highly recommended.

“Lovely views”

Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel Dublin

Jun 1, 2008

We stayed at the Fitzpatrick (formerly Killiney Castle Hotel) at the beginning of our holiday and it was a great place to stay.

We booked a suite and they gave us one at the corner with uninterrupted views of Dublin Bay and Dun Laoghaire harbour. I could have sat on the balcony and played harbour master all day.

Service was great and any need was promptly attended to.

Like others we found breakfast was a bit pricey. We had it one morning, but found the cafes in Dalkey to be a bit cheaper.

A lovely hotel, with great facilities and if Dublin is not your intended point of interest then this is a great place to call home. Personally I am well beyond finding Dublin of any interest and as such this hotel is the perfect location to base yourself in.

We have stayed here in the past, and will again in the future.

“Great location and service”

Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel Dublin

4 of 5 stars
Blackpool, England

The Fitzpatrick Castle is a well located, comfortable, four star hotel with good service. The Hotel is located about 15 minutes walk down a steep hill into the village of Dalkey. There are great views out into Dublin bay from its high position near the top of Killiney Hill. There are very pleasant gardens at the front of the hotel where you can sit out if it’s a nice day. The building is advertised as an 18th Century Castle but in reality most of the building looks to be a mix of Victorian and mid 20th Century architecture.

Rooms are comfortable and the standard rooms are of average size. The room I stayed in had a four poster bed (see pictures). The furnishings are of good quality although the decoration is a little dated. The rooms are equipped with a satellite TV (inc Sky sports), an in room safe, hair dryer, trouser press and tea and coffee making facilities. However, they do lack air conditioning and there is no mini bar.

The Hotel has two restaurants, PJ’s and the Dungeon Grill. I did not try PJ’s other than for breakfast. Breakfast is a little disappointing given the 19.50 Euro price tag. There is a good choice of hot food (although my experience was that is was warm rather than hot) but a more limited choice of cold fare. Dinner in the Dungeon grill was pleasant although fairly unadventurous. The Dungeon grill seems to be very lively and busy at all times and it is recommended you make a reservation to avoid disappointment. If you are looking for a quiet romantic haunt then this is not the place for you. There are many good, reasonably priced restaurants in Dalkey to choose from if you want something different..

There are good facilities including an extensive health spa with 20 meter pool and sauna. There are two main bars. The sophisticated but quiet Library bar and the livelier Dungeon bar in the basement.

The best point about this Hotel is the service. Staff are attentive without being intrusive with service being fast and efficient. I would recommend this Hotel for anyone requiring a relaxing break outside Dublin. The little village of Dalkey, down the hill is a great retreat and yet you are only 20 minutes from the centre of Dublin via the Dart.

“Lovely relaxing break”

Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel Dublin

May 6, 2008
1/1 found this review helpful

This lovely hotel is situated just far enough out of Dublin to feel like a great break from it all but close enough to make it into the city for a bit of sightseeing or guiness drinking.
The hotel itself was friendly and with excellent staff and the lovely fitness club to keep you busy. The surrounding area was really lovely with some good walks in the hills.
Dalky itself is a lovely town with some nice pubs and restaurants- Finnegans and In cafe being our favourites, as well as the Druids Chair up on the hill.
It was a perfect 3 night getaway and would reccommend to families and couples alike!

“Excellent hotel”

Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel Dublin

5 of 5 stars
west yorkshire
May 5, 2008

Our second visit to the Fitzpatrick and we were not dissappointed. The hotel is situated on Killiney Hill only a short walk to the Dart into Dublin along the coast. It is a beautiful hotel and deserves the four stars. The room was large and very comfortable, the staff helpful and very friendly, and the meals beautifully prepared with good choice to suit all requirements. We had dinner included on the first night in the restaurent up to the value of 45 euros and this was very good. The hotel pool is nice too and towels are provided and a swimming hat if you have forgotten one. The walk up Killiney Hill and through the park down to Dalkey is well worth it. The concierge will give directions and provide umberellas if needed. Dalkey is a delightful town with great restaurants and lovely houses. We ate in Nosh and this was very good.
