“Nice Resort”

Ocean Coral & Turquesa

My wife and I just came back from H10 Ocean Turquesa. We’ve got a great last minute deal. The hotel sign had 5 stars, but our agency had it rated at 4.5.
Advantages: 30 min. from Cancun airport; great and very clean rooms (we had a junior deluxe apartment) with bath tub and flat screen satellite TV (no Jacuzzi); rooms, swimming pools, beach and restaurants are very close to each other; excellent food and service; nice Japanese, Italian and Mexican restaurants that don’t need booking in advance; luxury buffet; very clean anywhere you go; very safe; all pools are right on the beach; nice beach restaurant
Disadvantages: No pedal boats or catamaran on the beach, but they offer a free bus (leaving 7:30 am and back 1:30 pm) to H10 Ocean Maya where you can use their boats and rides free of charge; It is far from Xel-Ha, X-Caret, Tulum, Coba and Playa Del Carmen and there are lots of hotels in between, so when we did the tours to these places they had to pick up other tourists as well and the time to get there was 2 hrs each way; they had free Wi-Fi but no computers, so if you need internet you need a laptop with wireless card. No other bad comments really. We were offered the hotel presentation and they said it wasn’t a timeshare but we heard from other people that it was. We didn’t do it anyway. If you like swimming attractions I would recommend the coral reef snorkeling which is offered at the beach for 45$ per person. The coral reef is ranked second in the world and it is less than a mile away from the shore. One more thing, when we arrived at the airport, there were lots of sales people offering tours at half price if we went to 90 minutes presentations at their hotels during our vacation. They asked us to pre-pay $20 per person. We didn’t do it and we were told later that we did the right thing. Overall, we had a great time and would love to go back.

“Beautiful property”

Ocean Coral & Turquesa

9/10 found this review helpful

To preface, my husband and I are experienced travellers and have done numerous all inclusives in Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Cuba in addition to other travel throughout Europe. We went to Ocean Turquesa on a whim as a one week sale was too good a deal to pass up and happened to be on a week we had already booked off.

Positives:
The hotel is located about 15 minutes from the airport so no long bus rides to get to your destination.

The architecture and interior design, particularly of the lobby, were quite impressive. Different textures and materials were used to create a neuvo retro feel. I particularly liked the different types of chairs in the lobby and restaurants.

I personally liked the fact that we didn't have to be in line first thing in the morning to make dinner reservations. During our trip, if you showed up at a restaurant before 7:30 pm you were able to get a table. Later in the evening you may have had a wait.

The rooms were well appointed for Mexico. Lots of other reviewers commented on the glass bathroom. I thought the look suited the decor of the hotel. The blinds and frosting on the various panels allowed for some degree of privacy.

The food, for the most part, was quite good. We particularly liked the Italian restaurant. The Mexican restaurant had the best fish dish and wasn't typical mexican cuisine.

The must see show is the circus show that played on Thursday evening. It was quite spectacular with a varied troupe. We didn't take in the other shows so can't comment on them.

Most evenings there was live music after the show ended in either the huge lobby or around the pool with the bar. The bands were decent and the music was good to dance to.

There are four pools to choose from so there is something for everyone. Unfortunately in June, probably due to less than capacity, the services at some pools were not open.

The house wine changed daily which gave variety and if the daily wine was undrinkable you could always hope for a better tommorrow. We bought a couple bottles of nicer wine when we dined at the Italian restaurant.

Self serve Corona beer and wine on tap in the restaurants.

Needs Improvement:
The alcohol, with the exception of a Canadian rye and Bombay gin, is imitation produced in Mexico and is terrible. Even liquor poured out of a Kahlua bottle was not Kahlua. Maybe I'm too fussy but we ended up taking a cab into Puerto Morales to buy some drinks for our room. Sad when you've already paid the all inclusive price.

The Japanese restaurant was good the first night. We were seated at the grill and they put on a nice show and the food was quite good. But we went back another evening to try the table service and they were having sewer problems, at least that is my guess. The restaurant just reaked and we couldn't stomach staying and eating. I spoke to another guest that said they had the same experience the previous evening. Hopefully they get this rectified soon. They tried to mask the smell by spraying a room deodorized but that did little to mask the unpleasantness. It may have been casued by improper drainage as it occured after we had a rain storm.

The beach is just OK. It is quite narrow and covered with the fine hair seaweed. On the positive side, you can walk for miles and we only encountered one hawker the whole week.

I commented previously about the different styles of chairs and how unusual they are. However on the negative side, they obviously didn't sit in some of them before purchasing them. Some of the restaurant chair designs were quite uncomfortable for a dining experience, particulary the ones in the Mexican restaurant.

To sum up our experience, we would return on a sale as the experience was a pleasant one and the negatives were not significant enough to detract from taking a beach vacation.

“Not too shabby”

My wife and I stayed at the H10 7/5 - 7/11. Overall, I would have to say that we had a great stay. It was important to me to have a ocean view from our room. I have stayed in the Riviera Maya before, and have found this to be fairly rare. We emailed the hotel a couple of weeks requesting a 2nd or 3rd floor room with a king size bed, and both of our requests were met. (I don't believe that the majority of 1st floor rooms have a beach front view.)
The room was nice and spacious with nice decor. My wife and I still laugh when thinking about the toilet. It is located right next to the shower and is not really closed off from the rest of the bathroom/bedroom, and in an odd design for Mexico the glass door does not reach all the way to the ceiling.
Having a room so close to the ocean was great when hanging out on the beach, we could be up to our room and back down to the beach in minutes if needed. The beach was a bit of a disapointment for us. Lots of sea grass both on the beach and in the water. The water was not clear and there were rocks. My wife and I brought water shoes, and that was the only way she would even enter the ocean. When I went in without the water shoes small patches of open sand could be found, but you would have to work to find them. We never really had a problem finding beach chairs and palapas as the beach is rather large and spread out. There was also a nice ocean breeze that could be felt at the beach and the pools, so it never got too hot.
The pools were nice, and now have umbrellas to shade from the sun. We were not always able to find open seats around the pool that we wanted to be at, but could always default to the beach for an open seat. We primarily lounged at the main pool and the pool with the swim up bar.
The drinks that we had were hit or miss, so I primarily stuck to the Corona. It was nice having Corona on tap at the main pool snack bar, but I am unsure if other alcoholic drinks were available. My wife and I had brought insulated mugs for our drinks, but I just used my Nalgene bottle for the beer. Never really got warm. When we wanted a real drink we would walk over to the pool bar.
The employees were nice and always said "hola!" In all honesty they were probably about as nice back to you as you were to them. We witnessed some people being jerks, and they did not get as warm a reception as the people that were having a good time and being polite. We tipped a buck or two whenever we could.
Went to Cancun during the day on the free shuttle (10am-4pm). Sign up in the lobby at the excursions desk.
Took a cab to and from Puerto Morelos ($9 each way) and had a very nice seafood dinner at Pelicanos. A little pricey, but right on the beach and great food and service.
My wife and I are both around 28 years old and kept ourselves entertained at night. No disco at the hotel, and the bars were fairly mellow. They did have a Toga party one night and a Luau party at the outside bar and live music in the lobby the other nights. That worked fine for us.
The food was above average, especially for a Mexican all-inclusive. We ate at each of the specialty restaurants and never had to wait to be seated. Sit at the main cooking tables for the best experience at the Japanese restaurant. Italian had the best quality food. The buffets always had something good to eat, even if you had to build it yourself. I took the fresh fish and tortillas from the grill and combined it with the cheese and pico de gallo from the salad bar for some of the best fish tacos I have ever had (ate these 4 days out of the week).
Overall, the place was very nice, and you could tell you were staying at a new resort. I would recommend this hotel to friends, but would probably not stay again, just because there are so many options in the Riviera Maya.
