My wife and I stayed at the H10 7/5 - 7/11. Overall, I would have to say that we had a great stay. It was important to me to have a ocean view from our room. I have stayed in the Riviera Maya before, and have found this to be fairly rare. We emailed the hotel a couple of weeks requesting a 2nd or 3rd floor room with a king size bed, and both of our requests were met. (I don't believe that the majority of 1st floor rooms have a beach front view.)
The room was nice and spacious with nice decor. My wife and I still laugh when thinking about the toilet. It is located right next to the shower and is not really closed off from the rest of the bathroom/bedroom, and in an odd design for Mexico the glass door does not reach all the way to the ceiling.
Having a room so close to the ocean was great when hanging out on the beach, we could be up to our room and back down to the beach in minutes if needed. The beach was a bit of a disapointment for us. Lots of sea grass both on the beach and in the water. The water was not clear and there were rocks. My wife and I brought water shoes, and that was the only way she would even enter the ocean. When I went in without the water shoes small patches of open sand could be found, but you would have to work to find them. We never really had a problem finding beach chairs and palapas as the beach is rather large and spread out. There was also a nice ocean breeze that could be felt at the beach and the pools, so it never got too hot.
The pools were nice, and now have umbrellas to shade from the sun. We were not always able to find open seats around the pool that we wanted to be at, but could always default to the beach for an open seat. We primarily lounged at the main pool and the pool with the swim up bar.
The drinks that we had were hit or miss, so I primarily stuck to the Corona. It was nice having Corona on tap at the main pool snack bar, but I am unsure if other alcoholic drinks were available. My wife and I had brought insulated mugs for our drinks, but I just used my Nalgene bottle for the beer. Never really got warm. When we wanted a real drink we would walk over to the pool bar.
The employees were nice and always said "hola!" In all honesty they were probably about as nice back to you as you were to them. We witnessed some people being jerks, and they did not get as warm a reception as the people that were having a good time and being polite. We tipped a buck or two whenever we could.
Went to Cancun during the day on the free shuttle (10am-4pm). Sign up in the lobby at the excursions desk.
Took a cab to and from Puerto Morelos ($9 each way) and had a very nice seafood dinner at Pelicanos. A little pricey, but right on the beach and great food and service.
My wife and I are both around 28 years old and kept ourselves entertained at night. No disco at the hotel, and the bars were fairly mellow. They did have a Toga party one night and a Luau party at the outside bar and live music in the lobby the other nights. That worked fine for us.
The food was above average, especially for a Mexican all-inclusive. We ate at each of the specialty restaurants and never had to wait to be seated. Sit at the main cooking tables for the best experience at the Japanese restaurant. Italian had the best quality food. The buffets always had something good to eat, even if you had to build it yourself. I took the fresh fish and tortillas from the grill and combined it with the cheese and pico de gallo from the salad bar for some of the best fish tacos I have ever had (ate these 4 days out of the week).
Overall, the place was very nice, and you could tell you were staying at a new resort. I would recommend this hotel to friends, but would probably not stay again, just because there are so many options in the Riviera Maya.
