This review is in relation to the second time I’ve stayed at the Saville 2 Bond Street.
My last review was very long and contained a fair amount of melodrama in relation to my toe injury I sustained whilst holidaying in Sydney, but this review will be significantly shorter.
This time my partner and I were staying at the Saville but in a privately-owned apartment which we managed to book (at half the normal hotel price) through Apartments Plus. It’s long term rates (7 days or more) and we were there for 8 days, so lucky us!
I was quite nervous, as I’d never done this sort of thing before. We booked, paid by credit card in advance, and picked up the keys from a convenience store under another hotel/residential apartment building nearby in Sydney. I was scared that either the keys wouldn’t be there and we’d have nowhere to stay with all our luggage, or the room would be a dump or something…but no. Everything went smoothly. The keys were right where they were supposed to be, the location to pick up the keys was conveniently close to the Saville, and the only issue was that at first we couldn’t work out how to open the door. I ended up having to go back downstairs (in the lovely marble and glass lift from the 13th floor we were staying on) to see if someone on reception could assist. I was worried they would turn me away, as I wasn’t technically staying through the hotel, but a lovely girl actually accompanied me upstairs and helped me. The door then opened fine and the room was lovely, as they all seem to be.
After this we had absolutely no dramas the whole 8 days/nights we stayed at the Saville. Just a lovely room, not loud at night or in the day…we could hear vague thumpings of music on Friday night, but it wasn’t anything that would provide any disturbance. The extractor fan in the bathroom was quite loud when the door was open, but I actually liked this as it did block out any random street/traffic noise at night (not that there was much to speak of). If you didn’t want the fan noise, simply closing the bathroom door would suffice.
The furnishings were lovely as I’d hoped…the bathroom was gorgeous, all marble and nice…the view wasn’t really anything, but we already knew that. If there were only low buildings in front of us, we could have seen the harbour, but there were too many tallish buildings, so…no matter though. We don’t stay inside and stare out the window all day.
The location was perfect for us. It is literally 2-3 blocks to Pitt Street Mall, you walk out the door (which is often held open by helpful door men) and you’re on George Street and most of the buses you need to get around go right past…also the shops on George Street and the cinema, Town Hall and China Town are about a 5-10 minute walk away…even Darling Harbour is only 10 minutes away, walking down to the stylish and cool King Street Wharf area. We had no idea it was so close! It is also, importantly for us since we got many ferries, only a 5 minute walk down to Circular Quay, and about 10 minutes wander to The Rocks precinct. Fantastic!!!
The apartment had a 51cm TV in the lounge, with a DVD, a VCR and a CD player/stereo, and also a smaller TV in the bedroom area. Strangely, and perhaps this shouldn’t be mentioned, but we seemed to have free and constant access to 2 channels of porn. We occasionally utilised these, more for fun and laughs than anything else sexual!
I don’t really know what else I can say about how nice and enjoyable staying in this hotel is…it’s just so effortless and convenient to spend the day out, and then come back and it’s all relaxing and lovely. No difficulties at all, and it’s so nice to be surrounded by attractive and comfortable furnishings.
The only small things that could be improved (and I am very picky) are that the showers at the Saville (in the studio / 1 bedroom apartments anyway) do tend to be very dark, as there is no downlight directly over them. Otherwise, the bathrooms are gorgeous and the European enclosed laundry is excellent. Also, 2 of the downlights were not working, but this wasn’t a problem. The extractor fan in the bathroom may annoy some people, but it didn’t for us and again, once the bathroom door is closed, you can’t even hear it.
We were instructed to leave the keys on the dining table upon our check out, which we did, and all was well. How simple is that!?
Anyway, I love this hotel and would always try to stay here whenever I’m in Sydney. All in all, another wonderful hotel experience at the Saville.
