I am a travel agent who often uses tripadvisor for research and to direct clients. I found the reviews of this hotel helpful, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone. It has an exceptional location in the centre of the CBD. It is very modern, clean and has recently been refurbished. Dee at reception is cheerful, helpful and lovely to deal with, as were all staff we spoke to. We had a one bedroom deluxe (spa) apartment and it was enormous. High ceilings, large bathroom, fully appointed and modern kitchen, spacious living area. We were lucky enough to get a balcony and it was a lovely bonus. There are only a few with a balcony so don't forget to ask! The spa bath is huge, and we were happily provided with a dvd player when requested. We wanted to pack the curtains and take them home because they are so effective at shutting out the light when you want to go to sleep - we accidentally slept in late both mornings as a result! I can't fault this hotel in any respect, and can't wait to go back next time I go back to Melbourne.

“Great 4 1/2 * serviced apartments right in the heart of the CBD”

Stayed with family (5 adults) in a 2-bedroom apartment. I was very impressed with the standard of the place. Fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds (including 1 rollaway bed), good service. We requested 2 full bathrooms (some apartments have only 1 1/2) One bathroom had a jacuzzi, and toileteries & hairdryer are provided, though not toothbrush/toothpaste.
The location was fantastic, right next door to several great restaurants (try Ishikai for nice affordable sushi) and just around the corner is a pick-up spot for the free Melbourne sightseeing bus.
The only problem we had with the place was that we couldn't get a late checkout, but they did have a luggage room, so we could store our bags and come back for them.
Overall great value.

“Bourke St Apartment”

My sister and I shared a 2-bedroom apartment, which was on the 3rd floor of a 7-storey (more or less) building right in the Melbourne CBD. It was one block away from Swanston St, therefore trams, Myers, David Jones, restaurants, so very, very handy. The bedroom windows were double glazed so good for dulling any evening noise. A couple of nights I barely heard the thud of bass from night club music. It didn't worry me as it was so faint.

Our apartment was great - self contained, light and roomy, although it smelled a bit smokey. They have a non-smoking policy and a $200 fine if one smokes in the apartment, so we were probably unlucky. The bedrooms were a nice size, one with a queen bed and the other with a super king which could be made into 2 large singles. The bathroom was big with a shower over a huge spa bath, washing machine/dryer in one, and toilet, and a separate toilet next door.

The balcony was so narrow you would hardly stand on it, but it was nice to be able to open the lounge door to the outside. It was a bit noisy with traffic, but good to have a nosey at the street below. Our lounge opened onto Bourke St, and we had all day sun, not that we were there all day, but it was nice to come home to a nice warm room. There is a heat pump/ air conditioner.

Our friends had the 1-brm apartment next door. The usual configuration is a queen bed, but they asked for 2 twin beds, which they were given, but the room was a little small for the two beds, so the bedroom door couldn't be shut. Also, hope you don't get claustraphobic as the bedroom was on the inside, so no window. The rest of the unit was great though, and they had a bigger lounge than our lounge.

They have a gym which we used a few times, which was great. No airconditioning in the gym, but it served its purpose.

We paid AUD245 per night for 7 nights. It was a bit pricey, but we were in Melbourne on conference, so after a hard day at the office it was nice to come back to pleasant surroundings. We had a dining room table that seated 6, plus there was a work station, so plenty of room for the lap top and for the neighbours to share dinner. We ordered in twice and enjoyed both takeaways.

The neighbours paid AUD185 per night for their Twin configuration. They also had kitchen facilities and a large bathroom, with spa bath, etc.

Someone we know stayed at the conference hotel (3-star), which was reported to be awful, not clean, etc.

All in all it was a pleasant stay. One minor glitch that was disappointing and that I didn't report, was that my tiny teddy bear went missing. I'd only had it for a week, received in response to a donation I made, so not of sentimental value. I trust it's gone to a needy recipient. No trouble with any other items though.

All in all, I was pleased with everything, so would stay there again, and recommend to others.

The Quest has a great central location on Bourke Street. It is a relatively new property with good amenities and a decent gym. Room was clean and made up for me promptly. Room size was also very good. The design of the hotel is modern without straying too far into the fancy trappings of a "boutique hotel". I would certainly consider staying here again if in Melbourne.

“The Quiet Quest”

Quest on Bourke

4 of 5 stars

My hubbie and I recently spent 6 nights at the Quest on Bourke. I would have to say that this apartment was the quietest place that I have ever stayed in. I am a really light sleeper, so this is really important to me. This place is soooo quiet, when we were leaving at 5.30am on day of departure, we noticed that there was a nightclub 3 doors away! We didn't hear any noise from there at all. Chinese New Year was being celebrated about 100m away in Russell Street for the first two nights and we didn't hear a thing!

We stayed in a deluxe room, which contained everything we needed. Full kitchen with dishwasher, spa bath in the bathroom and a washer & dryer in the laundry.

The windows were covered by rubber backed curtains, which was great because the afternoon sun was really hot, and when the curtains were shut, no light got through at all. The room was also air conditioned. The bedroom was separate to the lounge-dining room, so if you wanted a snooze, you could get away from the TV. This room was so dark at night that hubbie and I both slept like logs. King bed with really comfortable pillows was a dream!

The staff were extremely helpful with everything. There is a public car park just about half a block away which normally costs $33 per night, but reception will give you a ticket for $18 per night, so that is a good saving if you have the car with you.

Quest also offers charge-back services for local restaurants. I can highly recommend the Mary Martin Bookshop, which is just up the road about 50m.

Our room had a mini-service each day we were there. Fresh towels and bed made etc. We also received a Welcome to Melbourne pack when we arrived, which contained a large book about things to see and do whilst you were there, sunscreen and some ice blocks. It was a really nice touch.

Bourke Street is really in the middle of Melbourne. There is a tram stop right out the front of the Quest and the Bourke Street Mall and Collins Street shopping is just a short stroll away. Chinatown is only 50m away and there are some great restaurants there. There is also a picture theatre just around the corner.

The only slightly negative things that I could say about Quest on Bourke is that it doesn't have a pool and the rooms don't have balconies, but I knew this going in, so I wasn't disappointed at all, but if you want a pool you probably wouldn't stay here.

We got a great deal when we booked directly through the Quest website - www.quest.com.au - the rate was a lot better than deals offered on wotif.com.au and other last minute places.

I can highly recommend Quest on Bourke. This was my 3rd visit to Melbourne and I can safely say that I will always return to the Quest.
