Stayed here recently for 3 nights. A good basic hotel that is getting a little tired. Rooms are good size and river views are amazing. Balcony by design makes it quite protected from strong Perth afternoon winds so pleasant to sit out there with a glass of wine.

The room itself was nice but needed some updating although the TVs were large and new. Beds were very comfortable and there was little noise from adjoining rooms. The air-conditioning was spot-on. The balcony needed a good scrub and there was a cigarette butt left under the table on the balcony which was a bit unappealing. The bath taps leaked spraying water when operational and needed replacement. Despite it being a non-smoking room strong smoke smells came through the bathroom air vent at night and in the morning which was unpleasant when you are wanting to relax in your room. Lifts were slow and the pool needed a bit of a clean but looked like it could be very inviting.

Lollies and magazines in the rooms were a nice touch as were fresh apples and newspapers in the foyer. The concierge service was good but they had no decent maps. The free bikes were excellent and well used. You could always get a taxi at the door.

Despite providing a great (but very expensive in my view) breakfast it was extremely expensive at $21 for a continental and $27 for a cooked. I was incorrectly billed for a cooked b'fast despite filling in the required forms correctly. Overall impression of staff was that there were a bit disinterested although most were friendly.

Had lunch at the restaurant and ordered room service. Room service was fast but the food I was served was awful - the lettuce in the cesar salad was so old it was dark brown on the ends and going slimey, the chicken in it so overcooked it was inedible. Ironically the poached egg was perfect! I also had a prawn dish and the prawns were swimming in oil and the salad it came with lacked many of the ingredients described in the menu and looked several days old. The lunch experience was much better but the meat was poorly cooked.

Overall a good basic hotel well located but needing to improve in a few areas. I would stay here again though and recommend it to others.
