Old, noisy. Avoid.

I was pretty disappointed in this hotel - it is very overpriced is not my idead of a 4*. We booked a harbour view and agreed to pay extra, however when it was no where to be seen I asked to switch and was told there were no other rooms. When my partner insisted they found one - however this room had bed bugs as I discovered when I woke up the next morning. The resturant was nice but I still wouldn't stay here again.

This hotel is way overpriced it should be at maximum 90 usd a night. The hotel is in the middle of the city and from the outside looks like a four star but inside it is a 2/3 star. The rooms are supposed to be non smoking but the smell of cigarrette smoke is pungent in the air. The rooms are simple and not what you expect for $180 a night. The carpet is simple and a bit dirty and in need of replacement. It looks like an attempt was made at remodeling but it looks like they just took randm peices and stuck them in place. The shower control is broken and the water is either burning hot or cold. The shower head is hard to move and sends water spraying all over the bathroom. This is not helped by the wrong size shower curtain. The amount of towels they give you is the bare minimum of 1 per person with no additional ones for your hair. The hallways and elevators are in major need of repair and repaint. The parking is ridiculous as all vehicles have to be taken off premises by a valet and it is hard to get them out. I do not reccomend this overpriced holiday inn type hotel.

This hotel was really lovely, our room was nice quite small but perfectly formed. The staff were really nice and helpful and there was quite alot of information available about Auckland. The hotel did have a laundry room but it was not advertised so we had to ask them. The gym was really good with great views over the docks.

There is not so much to see on the north island but is worth a look and Auckland is a great base and is a nice vibrant city with lots to offer.

Trips i would reccommend, the glow worm caves really amazing and the mud pools and gezzers.
