Spent 4 nights here at the end of February 2007.
We arrived very early in very cold weather, and being able to check-in early was much appreciated.
Our room was excellent: spotlessly clean, spacious, well-decorated and equipped, and with a good bathroom with both bath and shower. LCD TV and fast internet in the room (bring your laptop) were also good modern touches. Tea and coffee making facilities were also provided in-room, along with a small but well-stocked mini-bar/fridge.
Our room also had a nice view overlooking the square, other rooms would look out on the hotel's court-yard. The windows kept any noise out, and solid walls meant there was no noise from adjoining rooms either. The hotel has an excellent location, facing the beautiful Philharmonic building, very close to the town hall and within easy walking distance of Cathedral Square, Gedimino (the main shopping street) and the main bus & railway stations.
Breakfast was a fairly simple mix of hot and cold items, nothing special but sustaining enough. The restaurant is pleasant enough, with nice surroundings and good service, but the menu is a little too elaborate for plain tastes.
There is a hot tub and sauna, these are pretty modest and we had some trouble accessing them. They are OK, but not worth the charge levied after 10am.
We also opted for a very late check-out to facilitate our late flight home, this was granted for a small charge, which was helpful.
The staff were very pleasant and polite throughout our stay, perhaps overly laid-back at times meaning attention to detail was missing, but they generally made the stay very comfortable.
Vilnius itself is a captivating place, even in the depths of winter. It has good restaurants, nice inns, fine architecture, and, within the Old Town at least where traffic is at a minimum, an easy-going pace. Most places are also extremely good value, with generally good service and warm people. English is very widely spoken, though a greeting in LIthuanian is always appreciated.
This is the second time I've been here, and I would like to return and perhaps travel a bit more widely in the country. If I got a reasonably good rate again, I would be more than glad to return to the Ramada.
