“OK stay, good customer service”

Courtyard by Marriott Washington Embassy Row

4 of 5 stars
Manhattan Beach, Ca
May 26, 2008

We arrived late (9:00), most of the rooms were taken. We were offered a small room with a view or a larger room with a view of the building next door. We took the view. We were told that if we were not happy, that they would change it in the morning. The front desk person was kind and helpful. Among many helpful local tips, he also recommended a pub/restaurant nearby, which we enjoyed. Unfortunately, we didn't like our room (too much noise from the HVAC equip.). The next day we were able to transfer into a room that was bigger w/a view. Views are of the traffic circle not the tourist stuff, but it was better than a wall or garage (which I've had before)
Overall, we were happy with our stay. It's eight easy blocks to the White House.

“great hotel and location”

Courtyard by Marriott Washington Embassy Row

We recently stayed at this hotel. In the past few years while visiting DC I have stayed in three different hotels, one being the St Gregory Hotel, and I think the Courtyard on Embassy Row was a wonderful hotel. The location is great, just blocks from Dupont and the Metro. From this location we walked to the White House and the Mall area. Check in was quick and easy. We stayed two nights, the first night our room was close to the elevator and the noise disrupted our sleep. We spoke with the front desk, and we were given a new room for the second night which was quiet and comfortable. We had a queen/queen sofa bed. The room was a good size for the three of us. The first room had the sink and countertop outside of the bathroom area, which was helpful in getting ready to go out (you can be doing your hair and makeup while someone else was showering), the second room did not have that same set up (my daughter also missed the full length mirror). The lobby is very nice, with several comfortable chairs, and a few round tables. I saw a few couples playing cards at the tables on the second night. There are three computers with free internet access. In the morning they offer coffee, later in the morning there are apples, and in the evening cookies. With so many hotels to choice from in DC, it is difficult to decide, but I would stay here again when I come back to DC.

“Very good location for families in DC area”

Courtyard by Marriott Washington Embassy Row

4 of 5 stars
Boston, MA
Apr 14, 2008

Based on other reviews I read on my tripadvisor I was not 100% sure if I made a good choice. However, once we chacked in and got a feel for the DC area I realized we ended up in a great location for a great price! The hotel itself is clean and well-appointed. Staff were friendly and helpful. The pool and gym area is small but wee maintained. My daughter enjoyed the pool and I the hot tub. We didn't eat in the on-site restaurant Nage. It was very pricey but the food smelled wonderful. At the rate we got, I would definately stay at this hotel again.

Courtyard by Marriott Washington Embassy Row

Dec 4, 2007

4 of us travelled to Washington DC in late July 2007.

While searchng for a hotel to stay out we found out that hotels in DC are very expensive and fill up pretty fast so you have to reserve a hotel well in advance.

To be honest, the Mariott Courtyard Washington Embassy Row hotel was the only hotel that had a room available for us so we went ahead and booked in even though we would have liked to have paid a little less for our room.

We found that there is free espresso coffee in the lobby, free internet access, free cookies or muffins in the morning in the lobby.

Bathroom was big and clean with big tub. Room was big and clean and looked out onto the Street. No traffic noise. No noise from other rooms. (Note to Australian travellers: this hotel is just across from the Australian embassy so if anything happens you're staying at the right place !!) Great position - within reasonable walking distance to the White House and all other important buildings. When we were there the White House was fenced off for some reason so you couldn't really get a good look at it.

TIP FOR DAYTIME: The hop-on hop-off sightseeng bus that goes around to the various hot spots.

TIP FOR BREAKFAST: The Nage - right next to the hotel on the ground floor (you can go through to the restaurant through the interconnecting door from the hotel lobby). Great waitresses there at The Nage. Nice decor.

TIP FOR DINNER: The Nage again. We went to The Nage for dinner on our last night in DC here. Charming waiter and delicious food (though expensive but didn't mind because the food was good).

“Clean, quiet and convenient. I would stay here again.”

Courtyard by Marriott Washington Embassy Row

Like other Courtyard's I've stayed at, there is never anything that really makes me want to say "this was a great stay". It was definitely a good stay though. I was here on business. Check-in was fast, the room was clean, the property was clean. Here are a couple things that did stand out:

- WEIRD, kind of creepy pool area way down in the basement, actually one level below the workout area. I think whoever takes care of the pool area misunderstood the instruction "make the pool very clean" with "make the pool very green". The jacuzzi was nice though.
- Convenient location, pretty close to White House, maybe a 20 minute walk.
- The Nage restaurant. I was surprised that Marriott let the restaurant put the following phrase on their advertisement card in the room: "This is not Marriott food". Are they saying Marriott food is bad and their's is better or Marriott food is awesome and their food stinks? Anyway, I ordered what sounded like it was going to be a huge steak and it turned out to be just a little bigger than a golf ball (see picture). It was excellent though, as was the asaparagus and potato pancake-like side.

Bottom line: The place was clean, quiet and convenient. I would stay here again.
