Stayed the weekend at the Hampton Inn Convention Center recently and really enjoyed the stay. The location is very convenient, only about two blocks from the subway and a block from the Verizon Centre. There are plenty of restaurants on 7th Avenue and on the other side of New York Avenue, all within a 10 minute walk. You're also less than a mile from Union Station (but watch out for cab fares!)
The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the front-desk and concierge staff members were all very friendly. Our room was clean and in good shape...no wear and tear.
It was in the 90's all weekend and coming back from sight-seeing on Saturday afternoon, the front desk staff was standing ready with small bottles of ice cold water for returning guests; that was a nice touch.
The breakfast buffet does get crowded and to watch some people attack the food, you might think they believe they'll never eat again, but the staff did a good job of replenishing the food even when some families attempted to eat all their meals for the day at breakfast. I guess because it's included in the price of the rooms, people want to get their money's worth.
The area north of the hotel looks a little sketchy, but I never felt unsafe coming back at night from the subway in Chinatown. There was always a lot of traffic on Mass Ave and plenty of people on 6th Street, and I liked the location because I think something a block or two closer in would have been a bit noisier.
There were no negatives surrouding the stay. I would definitely stay here again.
