I recently stayed at the Henley Park Hotel for a business meeting. The hotel was booked for the group I was with, and I do not know what the room rate was. I was a little concerned about staying there after reading some of the reviews, but I had a very nice stay. I was there for 4days/3nights, and overall, it was a great home away from home. I enjoyed the historic atmosphere of the building - it had a lot of interesting building features that you would never find in a modern chain hotel. My room was small, but it felt very homey and nice to come back to at the end of a long work day. The room was decorated in soothing colors, and the furniture was antique. I felt like I was in a cozy bedroom, as opposed to an impersonal hotel room. It was spotless each day, which I think requires special effort in an older building. The shower had excellent water pressure and lots of hot water, and the bed was comfortable. The pillows were not the most comfortable though.
I did not have any problems with the construction noise that other posters have complained about, but my room was on the opposite side of the construction. One of my group members did have trouble with the construction noise the first night - the jackhammers started at 5am, and she asked to be moved the next night, which the hotel did accomodate. Be sure and ask for a room away from the construction when making reservations. I was on the 7th floor, but I did hear some street noise, like a group of people who seemed to partying late on Sat. night. There were also a lot of sirens from ambulances, police cars, etc. that frequently woke me up at night. However, others in my group who were from large cities commented on how quiet the hotel was.
The hotel has free wireless internet, but there is no ethernet connections. I had trouble with the wireless the first night, but was finally able to get it to work by calling the technology person that the lobby staff recommended. It worked fine the rest of the time.
The hotel has a nice bar / restaurant area where there was live jazz music. It was a cozy place to sit and visit at the end of the day.
All in all, it was a positive experience, and I would recommend the Henley Park Hotel. I can't speak to the value of the room, since I didn't have to pay for it, but it was a good place to stay when on a business trip.
