I booked a 5 night stay at the Quincy after an exhaustive search for an affordable but quality hotel for a 40th birthday vacation long weekend in DC. My partner and I could not have been happier with our stay.
After reading many reviews on tripadvisor.com, I called the night before arriving and requested a room on a higher floor, at the front of the building. We arrived 4 hours prior to check-in but only had to wait an hour for a room to be ready. Our room was on the 8th floor, facing L street. We didn't have any noise from dumpsters, but we were able to hear the street noise, particularly from the pub on Friday and Saturday night. I wouldn't have wanted to be on a floor that was any lower than where we stayed. The road noise with our window open was not the worst I've heard, but we only had to open the window for one night so it might have been more of an issue had the weather been warmer during our stay.
Our room was huge, with the most comfortable king size bed we have ever slept in, complete with 6 pillows and soft sheets. We had a large L-shaped sofa and large desk for our computers. The only small thing about the room was the bathroom. I agree with some of the other reviewers that mentioned the lack of storage in the bathroom, I had to put my things on the counter next to the microwave and fridge just outside the bathroom. The towels were divinely soft and the toiletries, including q-tips and cotton swabs were a nice touch. The water pressure was not great, but we figured it was an older building so took it with a grain of salt.
The fridge and microwave were great for breakfast, leftovers and cocktails in our room before dinner.
Our other requirement for a happy stay is free Wi-Fi with a strong signal, we got some of that. WiFi is included but our room did not have the strongest of signals. According to the front desk the signal is not consistent to every room, but we were provided with an Ethernet cable for a $20 deposit on our room bill which we worked great.
The location was ideal for our 5 day stay, walking distance to 2 Metro stations and to the Mall. Like others have said, the hotel is in the financial area of the city so there is not a lot open on after business hours and on the weekends, but you are in DC, so finding good restaurants within short walk or a Metro ride is not hard at all. We enjoyed a quick pub meal at Mackey's downstairs which was good price and was just an elevator ride away from our room.
When you look really close you can see some wear and tear on the property, peeling wallpaper here and there, but overall the quality of the furnishings and finishes in the room were very nice. Compared to other properties in the DC area, I think this one is a great deal for the price and location for anyone visiting DC for pleasure.
