This is a great place to stay when in DC. It's close to the Metro, it's clean, rooms are big, bed is super comfortable, and the staff is friendly. We would definitely stay here again, but only in cooler months. The A/C is not that great. The Improv Comedy club is around the corner. They've got great food and great comedians...we went there twice during our week visit. Check it out!

“Backside rooms are terrible”

The Quincy

1 of 5 stars
Brussels
Jun 5, 2008

I expect a hotel to provide a clean room, a comfortable bed and some peace and quiet between 10PM and 8AM. You have to be able to breathe in the room because it is essentially a place you retreat to after a busy day whether traveling on business or for pleasure. I also expect a hotel to deliver what it advertises, staff has to be friendly, professional and helpful.

Pros: large room, nicely decorated, location
Cons: NOISY, unfriendly

We stayed a couple of nights in the Quincy in may 2008. Reservations were made over the internet directly through the hotels website. I specifically asked for a quiet room. Strangely enough, I received no reservation confirmation by e-mail so make sure you write down your reservation number.

You can park your car next door at a rate of $28 per night with in/out privileges. Reception is to the point but far from friendly.

The room is large. You get a large and excellent bed, a sitting corner with comfortable sofa's and a large desk. There is internet available. The cheap wooden blinds do a poor job in shutting out the light. The room is very nicely decorated, You get a refrigerator and a safe.

There was wi-fi internet available but the manager on duty was unable to explain me how I could get it to work on a Mac. The network socket located on the desk lamp was not working. Maintenance fixed it within 10 min. but the man expected a tip for something that should have been working in the first place.

The Quincy does not have a restaurant but works with the restaurant next door. This is actually a Pub and does not fall into the category of a restaurant at all. I urge you to go somewhere else if you want to have dinner.

We got a room on the backside of the hotel. I initially perceived this to be positive but there is a large problem when you are located on the backside of the building and it starts at around 4:30 in the morning. The backside is also a loading (or drop off) location for trucks. Starting from 4:30AM in the morning you get one truck after another backing up into the alley (an this means you also get the very loud beeping sound that a truck makes when it is reversing). This goes on until about 10AM. It is VERY loud, VERY annoying and you cannot get around it with earplugs.

Checkout was not a problem but I expect hotel staff to always inquire if there were any problems. I did fill out the feedback card after the first night signaling the noise problem. My guess is that this is the reason why they didn't bother to ask.

Location: 7/10
Staff helpfulness: 6/10
Cleanliness of the room: 8/10
Room size and decoration: 8/10
Good night of sleep: 5/10

Price was in the $200 range and this would be acceptable if you could have some peace and quiet.

I would not stay in this hotel again unless I have to get up at around 4:30AM.

“lovely hotel”

After a couple of days in a nice but cramped New York hotel room we were very very pleasantly surprised at the Quincy. We had a big room with a huge (and incredibly comfortable) bed. Good location for sight seeing, and for restaurants, and also not too far to walk to Georgetown. I would definitely recommend it.

“Great price, great location and excellent bed!”

The Quincy

5 of 5 stars
Seattle, Washington
May 30, 2008

I booked a 5 night stay at the Quincy after an exhaustive search for an affordable but quality hotel for a 40th birthday vacation long weekend in DC. My partner and I could not have been happier with our stay.

After reading many reviews on tripadvisor.com, I called the night before arriving and requested a room on a higher floor, at the front of the building. We arrived 4 hours prior to check-in but only had to wait an hour for a room to be ready. Our room was on the 8th floor, facing L street. We didn't have any noise from dumpsters, but we were able to hear the street noise, particularly from the pub on Friday and Saturday night. I wouldn't have wanted to be on a floor that was any lower than where we stayed. The road noise with our window open was not the worst I've heard, but we only had to open the window for one night so it might have been more of an issue had the weather been warmer during our stay.

Our room was huge, with the most comfortable king size bed we have ever slept in, complete with 6 pillows and soft sheets. We had a large L-shaped sofa and large desk for our computers. The only small thing about the room was the bathroom. I agree with some of the other reviewers that mentioned the lack of storage in the bathroom, I had to put my things on the counter next to the microwave and fridge just outside the bathroom. The towels were divinely soft and the toiletries, including q-tips and cotton swabs were a nice touch. The water pressure was not great, but we figured it was an older building so took it with a grain of salt.
The fridge and microwave were great for breakfast, leftovers and cocktails in our room before dinner.

Our other requirement for a happy stay is free Wi-Fi with a strong signal, we got some of that. WiFi is included but our room did not have the strongest of signals. According to the front desk the signal is not consistent to every room, but we were provided with an Ethernet cable for a $20 deposit on our room bill which we worked great.

The location was ideal for our 5 day stay, walking distance to 2 Metro stations and to the Mall. Like others have said, the hotel is in the financial area of the city so there is not a lot open on after business hours and on the weekends, but you are in DC, so finding good restaurants within short walk or a Metro ride is not hard at all. We enjoyed a quick pub meal at Mackey's downstairs which was good price and was just an elevator ride away from our room.

When you look really close you can see some wear and tear on the property, peeling wallpaper here and there, but overall the quality of the furnishings and finishes in the room were very nice. Compared to other properties in the DC area, I think this one is a great deal for the price and location for anyone visiting DC for pleasure.

“The Quincy - mixed review”

The Quincy

3 of 5 stars
Oregon
May 29, 2008

We stayed at the Quincy for 6 nights in May, 2008. We reserved a king studio room but wound up with a queen efficiency suite at the same rate. While this meant a smaller bed (slight negative) it gave us a full kitchenette which was wonderful. We had all our breakfasts in the room which was a real plus. Overall, the room was great (nice size) and the location of the hotel was excellent -- within walking distance of the mall and with tons of restaurants nearby. However, the alley behind the hotel was backed onto by several office buildings each with large trash bins. It seemed like there was trash collection all night long every night, and the room was not well soundproofed. I would definitely request to stay in the front of the hotel rather than the rear if you want a good night's sleep.
