I was very spectacle at booking this hotel because of some of the negative reviews. But, our stay turned out to be O.K. First, unlike on the website, which says it is one block from Disneyland, it actually turned out to be a 15 minute walk. So we ended up taking the shuttle, which was real effecient. Second, the room itself wasn't the most luxurious for what we had to pay. It is very expensive for what you get. We got the kid's suite which was one king bed, with a cheap french door that didn't close all the way, with a see-through curtain over it and in the other side was a bunk bed with a sleeper sofa, an old microwave and a worn fridge. The bathroom was also quite small. Moreover, the room was very loud. You can hear the neighbors talking, then you can hear the water heater when someone is taking a shower, the air-conditioner, which vibrates the bunk bed leaving the kids up all night, and the automatic closing doors of other neighbors slamming all night long. The one thing about the rooms that was nice was the beds were comfortable, even though the pillows are not. The lobby is also quite nice, even though you don't get a continental breakfast and your paying 200 dollars a night. All in all, it wasn't too bad. Some minor and major faults in the hotel, but hey! You're going to Disneyland, the happiest place on earth, who cares. Just need a place to put your head down for the night. And really, we only spent a little time in our room. Definatly keep this hotel (motel) on your list.

“OK for families”

We stayed at this hotel because we got a last-minute deal on a kids suite, which ended up being cheaper than a standard room elsewhere because of our late booking. The room was spacious and our daughter enjoyed the bunk beds and the kid-sized table and chairs in her bedroom. We enjoyed having a king-sized bed to ourselves. The room did smell a bit musty and we had to crank the A/C down as low as it would go to get the room cooled off. You could defnitely hear other families, and it sounded like there was a herd of elephants stomping around the room above us first thing in the morning. However, having a kid ourselves and being used to noise and early mornings, we didn't think it was a big deal. The toilet was a little temperamental and we had to call maintenance at one point. Other than those few things, we really had no major issues during our stay. The staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful. Although I felt that there was some wear and tear in our room, this was not shocking considering that this hotel primarily caters to families. If my husband and I were going on a romantic getaway by ourselves, we would definitely pick another hotel. But our main goal was having a room our daughter could play in and enjoy when we weren't at the park, and this worked for us just fine. Our room was cleaned well everyday and housekeeping left the A/C running for us during the day, so our room was cool when we returned from the park.

“Good for a family visit to Disney”

Portofino Inn & Suites

May 17, 2008

I was a little worried about this hotel after reading some of the reviews on this site. It was fine. We booked the kids suite and yes it is not soundproof but for goodness sakes, you are a parent with kids! It worked out just fine. It was about a 15 min walk to Disney with the shuttle right outside.

Hotel was clean and close. The pool was nice. What more to do you need when you are at Disney for most of the time?

“middle of the road hotel”

Portofino Inn & Suites

Just got back from the Portofino Inn and Suites from a 6 night stay, I would say all in all in was a very average experience.
I have read a few reviews here stating that the front desk were not friendly and I have to say that is completely false. They were very nice and wanted to help everytime I stepped in the lobby. A few complaints I would have were the same as some others...very loud!! The noise level is very high from the people walking upstairs to walking down the hallways on your floor, the doors from each room when closed are very loud and can be quite disruptive.
A few of my own complaints, I find it hard to believe that the Portofino does not offer a continental breakfast?? With virtually every hotel in the area offering one how this hotel that caters to families does not is very surprising. They do operate the Jolly Roger Cafe which is a short walk through the parking lot and think with a little effort they could offer something. I got a little tired walking to 7-11 to get coffee(in room coffee stinks!).
The kids suite does have 2 rooms, kinda, but when you close the doors to the kids area why they would have drapes that are basically see thru is a bit of a mystery???? Why they wouldn't have darker coverings on those doors is quite perplexing. It offers less privacy than first thought when I booked the room.
Also don't be fooled by the pics of the pool, it looks big but is quite tiny. Not horrible but not what was presented in photos.

All in all the hotel itself was ok, we didn't any major complaints but wouldn't stay again. it is right between where walking is comfortable and taking a shuttle is a waste of time. I have read some people say that the walk is around 15 min to the park, that is untrue. The walk never took me more than 10 min and that is pushing it. The shuttle for the ART picks you up right in front of the hotel but with it coming every 20 min it seemed silly considering we could be at the park before the shuttle ever showed up for pick up, also Portofino is the first stop so you need to travel to the rest of the hotels before heading to Disneyland. But on the way back you are the first stop.

If you are not worried about no breakfast and the short walk then this hotel would be fine, The rooms were clean and the staff was friendly, but I said we would not stay again for some of the reasons above.

“Loved the Kid Suite”

Portofino Inn & Suites

5 of 5 stars
California
May 14, 2008

We just got back from a stay here, we usually stay at one of the Disneyland Hotels, so I was a little worried, and for no reason at all. The hotel was excellent! We arrived at 11am, checked in, and were given our room early, that was wonderful. The kid suite is definately the way to go. The room was huge, plenty of space for the kids to play, they loved having their "own" room, and we weren't all stuck on top of each other. If we wanted to watch something on tv, we actually could, their were two tv's which made it extra nice. The room was very clean, plenty of towels, and the bed was very comfortable, which is sometimes hard to come by at a hotel. The walk to Disneyland was only 10min, and my 5 year old had no problem. We will be staying here again! Oh, and I left something in the room, and they are mailing it back to me, I had pretty much written it off, but they found it, wow.
