It was our first time in Bangkok. We decided to stay in the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel along the Chao Phraya River. We stayed for 3 days. We took a taxi straight from the airport. It took about 35 mins to get to the hotel & we paid the taxi driver 400 Baht.
Upon arriving at the hotel, our room was double booked so they upgraded us. Our room was on the way end of the hall. It had a good view but it faced straight towards the other side of the river. A view showing the river extending or at an angle out slightly would have been better. The room was nice and clean. It had a nice working station. The bed was nice and comfortable. Welcoming us was a nice selection of native fresh fruits and a white chocolate elephant with a tiny gold diamond shape on it's forehead (it was yummy).
Our daliy ride to the nearest MTR is a cozy little tug boat. It's a free service the hotel gives. It arrives every 15 mins--- sharp. The service waits for 5 mins for passengers and it t takes exactly 10 mins to get to the dock nearest the MTR entrance which is less than 2 minutes away. The last boat ride from the dock to the hotel is at 10:30pm.
The bathrooms appeared clean but on our second night, I was taking a bath and all of a sudden the water started to turn a rusty brown color. Gross! I then turned on the shower to try to rinse off. The water was still dirty. I was disgusted! I was wondering if the sewage line got mixed up with the clean water line. I hopped out of the tub and complained to housekeeping. They passed my complaint on to the plumbing department. I left the water running and when the plummers arrived, the water didn't come out rusty anymore. They just said there was a broken pipe so it happens sometimes and left. I wanted to protest and talk to the hotel manager but I was so tired form my long day of walking. We were leaving the next day and the water ran clean again so I didn't mind staying for the night. But it was a disgusting experience. I shampooed and soaped thrice!
When we checked out the front desk even got our bill wrong. Luckily, my husband noticed it and they fixed the problem.
In conclusion, the room and the boat service was good but the hotel service and plumbing sucks.
