I stayed at the Waterfront for 8 nights at the end of June after reading the other reviews, and I enjoyed every minute. The atmosphere at the hotel is totally relaxed and very friendly. Robin and Sue were fantastic hosts, they knew and greeted all of the guests by name, arranged free transfers from and to the airport, and all the staff were happy to help with everything I needed.
The room was clean and a decent size, with air con and fan, and huge comfy pillows on the bed. All the rooms have free wireless, a TV and DVD player, and there is a pretty extensive library of DVDs and books that you can borrow for free. For breakfast, you have a choice of cooked food including omelettes, pancakes, and English breakfast, as well as cereal, fruit and juice. Even though breakfast is supposed to start at 7.30, I was able to get something to eat around 7am before heading out for diving. All in all it was excellent value for money.
Bophut is quite small, quiet and peaceful, there are loads of restaurants and bars within a few minutes walk of the hotel and there are lots of restaurants to choose from. If you like steaks, don't miss the Shack!
Most reviews mention the pool and beach. The pool is just big enough to cool off in, if you want to swim lengths then maybe look for somewhere else. It was never too crowded and there are always enough sunbeds, also there are two hammocks strung up on the trees which are great for chilling out. The sand on the beach is coarse and the sea is really shallow, at least in June, you can sunbathe there but not much else. On the plus side it was always pretty empty.
I'd definitely go back to the Waterfront, for the friendly atmosphere and chilled out village.
