I stayed at this new hotel (40/13 Bui Vien Street, District 1) for 4 nights in Nov 2007 split by a trip to the Mekong Delta. I corresponded with them by email a few weeks beforehand. They were quick to let me know that my original request for a room with a balcony on a lower floor couldn‘t be fulfilled because they‘d accepted another longer booking by the time I got back to them. So I asked for ,and got, the same room one floor up. I took them up on the offer of a taxi from the airport for $10 and it was there to meet me.
The room was large with both a window that opened and a door to the balcony. Tiled floors, comfy beds, TV, fridge, a/c. Tiled bathroom with shower cubicle and screen (no bath). All nicely kept. No lift.
There’s no internet at the hotel and no free breakfast. What you are buying here is the room - tours weren’t even mentioned. Having said that the service (taxis) and the welcome were excellent. I found the location on mini-hotel alley (running between Bui Vien Street and Pham Ngu Lao St) to be perfect for me - central but quiet by Saigon standards.
Recommended. I paid $20 a night and thought it great value.
Be aware that there is another Happy Inn on Bui Vien Street proper which is listed on the business card so assume same owners - can’t tell you anything about that location.
