“Wonderful and luxurious stay at The Chedi”

The Chedi Muscat

We have just returned from a 10 night stay in a Deluxe room at The Chedi. The hotel and grounds in scale and setting are truly amazing – very beautiful and luxurious. The hotel is located on the outskirts of Muscat - Old Muscat and Muttrah are a 15-25 minute taxi ride away. The hotel is only 10 minutes drive from the Seeb airport; we did see planes approaching and taking off over the resort, however it didn’t spoil our enjoyment of the hotel. However, you are in a ‘resort’ on the outskirts of a capital city. Deluxe rooms are very spacious, if a little ‘low tech’ for a 5 star hotel and they would probably benefit from some upgrades e.g. flat screen TV’s and Ipod players. However, you don’t go to Oman to sit in the hotel room! The hotel was very busy (even though it was low season), and it was a great benefit that there are two pools - a family pool and an adult only pool, the latter which is of benefit for those who don’t have children. The hotel benefits from being set on its own private beach and absolutely stunning grounds. We had read Tripadvisor reviews saying that the beach is awful, but it really is not that bad – hardly idyllic, but not awful. Also, the adult only pool overlooks the sea/beach, and it is a wonderful setting. Generally, the staff were very friendly and helpful, although we did find service in the restaurant rather slow – this appeared to be due to insufficient staff. We tended to eat outside the hotel on most nights – there are some excellent restaurants in Muscat. There are a lot of restaurants within about 20 minutes taxi drive from the hotel. When we booked our holiday we were looking for a luxurious break where we could simply soak up the sun and take it easy for 10 days with no pressure to do things outside the hotel. The Chedi delivered on all these fronts. We have stayed in a number of 5 star resorts worldwide, but we found The Chedi one of the best in terms of luxury, setting, facilities, and size of the resort. We would definitely return.

“Fantastic Chedi”

The Chedi Muscat

5 of 5 stars
Birmingham, UK

We have just returned from an 8 day stay at the Chedi and have vowed to return, possibly next year. We booked a Chedi Deluxe room which was centrally placed for the reception, restaurant, bar and the adult only Chedi pool.

The atmosphere around the hotel was relaxing and peaceful...very little in the way of entertaining children. In fact we only saw four or five of them around the hotel during our entire stay! Planes...not bad at all but being 15 minutes from Seeb international meant that the odd one flew overhead but this was hardly intrusive upon the enjoyment of the hotel.

Staff and service were outstanding. Everyone was so pleasant and helpful from the duty managers right through to the door attenders. Nothing was too much trouble...literally.

Both swimming pools were excellent. We spent most of our leisure time around the Chedi pool. Staff reguarly provided iced water and cold flannels. Poolside lunches were excellent but not cheap. The beach is nothing much to write home about but this did not bother us as we are not 'beach people'. It is spotlessly clean however and is swept by hotel staff every day.

The restaurant is best described as being 'excellent'. If Michelin carries out assessments in the Middle East then a suitable award would surely be made. We are lucky enough to have eaten in some top restaurants in the UK as well as across the world and the one at the Chedi bears more than favourable comparison with any of them. The breakfast service was fantastic...nothing was too much trouble. Dinner is fantastic where the menu is available based upon 4 different cuisines from across the world. However, whatever one chooses will be excellent and will be served with an attentive smile by the restaurant staff.

Would we stay at the Chedi again? Without doubt, in fact without hesitation. We are not going to name other 5/6 star hotels in the Muscat area which we have visited but feel they have a long way to go to achieve the 'natural' ambience and atmosphere of the Chedi.

“Perfection”

From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect. The hotel is immaculately kept, with pristine water walkways, landscaped gardens, stunning views, and beautiful rooms. The Restaurant serves delicious food - the chandeliers have to be seen to be believed. Wine & food is quite expensive though (we spent more on this than our accommodation!!). If you want a true escape from everything, come here, turn off your phone, ignore your emails and just relax by the infinity pools....its perfect.

Don't bother reading reviews - just book your stay here - you will not regret it! But if you are going to read a review... Here goes: The whole place is beautifully serene and spotlessly clean. Everything is immaculate. Private beach, (but we're pool people and the infinity pool and other larger pool are beautiful... clean, perfect temperature and regular complimentary chilled towels and iced, minted water). Immaculate rooms, great bed, best service I've ever experienced (and I work in the FE where service is unbelievable) nothing is too much trouble - extraordinarily polite and attentive but not intrusive staff. Amazing food - champagne and lobster at the seafood restaurant is a must. Excellent wine cellar (Chateau Musar 1995 a highlight). They also organised a private table for my wife and I to have a bottle of our favourite vintage champagne at dusk on the beach. Great shower in the room. Cool music by the pool restaurant - separate pool for kids but we didn't see a single one in the two weeks we were there. We were keen to avoid screaming children and basically I don't think this a a family oriented hotel as there isn't much to do in the complex itself. This place is all about chilling out and luxurious relation. Excellent spa with excellent treatments (Malay/Indonesian style) - but book the spa early as it's busy. Breakfasts are awesome - eggs benedict particularly good. This place was perfect for our honeymoon after a dusty few weeks in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana. It's not cheap - but what you get for the price is amazing value. It's bliss... quite simply bliss. We will definitely be going back. Muscat is a cool town too - crazy fish market - whole town steeped in history and a cracking souk. A couple of good restaurants too. Wish I was there now as I reminisce...

    • Disliked — Nothing (forgot to mention overhead aeroplanes in review - it's not an issue at all - and the oil refinery or whatever is MILES away, can't see or hear it).

“Loved it”

The Chedi Muscat

Jun 28, 2008

Loved just about everything about this hotel. Pools were beautiful. Only really noticed being on the flight path on the Thursday - on other days we only heard one or two planes and it really didn't detract from the beautiful surroundings. Staff were all polite, courteous and helpful. When we left for the airport we must have been wished a good flight by about 5 different staff members! Seen better beaches, but also seen worse, and because the pools were so nice it didn't really matter. Spa was cool and relaxing and the staff there were very welcoming. Only slight gripe would be the restaurants/pool bars. The food was fantastic but the prices were steep, especially for drinks, and there was nowhere in the hotel to get a snack - pool bars serve a full-blown lunch and the hotel shop only has chocolate bars for food. The beach restaurant is closed during the summer months, so you really are a bit stuck with rich, expensive food in the main restaurant in the evenings unless you go out - having said this, there are plenty of places to go within a short and inexpensive taxi ride - like the Mumtaz Mahal indian restaurant. Stayed in Chedi Deluxe room. TV was small and not flat-screen, but we didn't go to Muscat to watch TV, so can't really complain. Could have done with a few more clothes hangers in the wardrobes. Overall, loved it and would return (with own clothes hangers!).
