“great place to stay!”

Hi all,
Sorry for my late review!
We stayed here from the 8th of Dec 2007 for 2 nights.
The log cabins are as stated before, they are fantastic, basic but still fantastic!
Our location of cabins were 4 upstairs and 4 on ground level,It was further away from all amenities, but we were closer to the wilderness !
The views from our ground floor log cabin were great, you were closer to the wild life,( if that is possible) as it was directly in front of you from every direction, the birds were also so close you could almost touch them, the impala were within 5 ft from your patio over looking the river!
We were that close to wild life, that on the last night I even heard ( what i was told following morning)was a lion in the river looking for its evening meal! (Safety is paramount at all times)
The staff here were out of this world, they could not do enough for you day or night, they were there for your every need.
They also lit the big cosy log fire, each night for us at the bar, as it got chilly due to thunder and lightning storms, they were beyond belief , that in itself was a brilliant experience!
The staff always looked out for your well being, my 12 yr old was catered for his every need, the staff love to have the children there, they make such a big fuss over them, they like to help them learn all aspects of the wild life ,safety and even their way of life.
The safari was great, we even combined our morning and afternoon game drives together on our second day, so we had over 7 hrs.( that was because of our own guide) I don´t know if this is normally possible.
He did this so that way we could go further afield.
We got to see Lion, Lioness and their cubs so close, you could have stroked them, you could not get this close in a zoo.
We saw a wide variety of animals, all the different species, it could be a safari venue on its own!
The experience here was fantastic, the Mara Simba made this an experience of a life time!
Even the views over the Mara in a storm were perfect !
This is a place to stay whether for famiies or couples.
Mara Simba Lodge is one that i will do again in the future!

We booked our safari through Lilac Adventures before we came to Kenya. I would certainly book through them again and would recomend them to friends and families. They were reasonably priced and Daniel from Lilac was superb. He responded instantly to all emails and then one of his colleagues James came to our hotel prior to the safari to confirm things and make sure we were happy with everything.
We stayed at the Mara Simba Lodge for two nights. The lodge was excellent. The accomodation was lovely with fantastic views from our balcony looking at the hippos and crocodile. If you get a choice ,ask for a top floor room as the views are better. Daniel put a request in for me for a top floor room and also for some champagne as a suprise. Both were granted.
The food was excellent. The curries were superb. Virginia our waitress was extremely friendly. The rest of the staff were also very friendly.
Our safari was fantastic. We had one of the best guides out called Geoffrey. He always stopped when we asked and we got so close to the animals. All of the other guides held back, but Geoffrey got lovely and close to all the animals, keeping us safe all the time.
We travelled in a 4x4 jeep with the sides to it open, so taking pictures were no problems, far better than the vans where people had to stand out the roof to take pictures. We had 8 people in total in our jeep. We had a great time with them and had a great laugh. Hi to Dean, Sally, Claire & John.
Unfortunately we didnt get to see the leopard or the rhino (although no one seemed to see them), however we managed to get up close to a pride of lions feeding on a recent kill. That was an experience never to be forgotten.
We also opted as a group to have early and mid morning safari combined together enabling us to have our breakfast out whilst on safari and giving us more time to see the animals. Definately recomended.
We also opted for the balloon ride. Once again well worth the money with a fantastic cooked breakfast at the end of it with champagne.
As previously stated in reviews the parks around the lodge were closed. This wasnt a problem as you still saw Giraffes , zebras, lions etc on the way to the lodge. It just means that you cant get close to them. By driving 20 mins or so you are in the main parks which are open.
We will definately return one day. I would certainly stay in the Mara Simba lodge again and would recomend staying there to friends and family

We stayed here for 3 nights in our week long Safari with Africa Point. It was a really very peacefull place. The rooms have small balconies overlooking to a small river with hippos inside! :)
The small huts were so nice in the middle of forest like lodge. we could find good chance to observe environment even in the lodge.

“Good place to stay”

We stayed at the lodge for 2 nights as a part of the week long safari in Kenya will Pollmans. This was the first lodge that we stopped at, and initially, you don't know how it measures up to the rest of the trip. In my estimation, the accomodations are below average, the food and service are above average. It is definitely a safe place to stay, and you will not be "roughing it". The rooms are located in the log cabins, 4 per cabin, 2 stories. The decor is simple, yet charming. The room was spacious, but we had a honeymoon suite. The bathroom had some problems - I am sure that it was cleaned, but it did no have a clean appearance, and the water in the sink came out rusty at first. It took forever to get hot water in the shower (at first, I thought there was none). The hotel provides you with 2 bottles of water per room per day, and you can buy some at meals if you need more. I would definitely recommend brushing your teeth w/ bottled water, at least in that particular hotel. Public restrooms were few, and there would be a line in the mornings and in the afternoons after we came back from safari. A couple times there were issues with plumbing and there was a flood or some bad odor. The pool was maintained daily, and had towels, but there were few lounges. Plenty of chairs though. The water was cold. There was a large deck overlloking a river and you could spot some wildlife, such as crocs, birds, monkeys, monitor lizards, etc. There was a fire place and a bar on that deck, but at night it got nippy. The food was fresh, and there was plenty of it. Enough choices, plenty of vegetarian options. Eggs cooked to order in a.m. There were a lot of indian dishes in the hotel, something I did not expect. Always cheese and fresh fruit, juices. Try their soups, unusual, but good. In the morning, if you left on the game drive before breakfast, there was coffee and tea for you on the deck. Also, afternoon tea. Drink prices were reasonable. One night they had Masai dancers for entertainment. The waitstaff and everyone else were extremely accomodating and very eager to please. One thing about all of the hotels is that the porters are very agressive about carrying you bags when you arrive and before you leave. They all want a small tip, but they are very persistent, even if you are carrying a small backpack.
I agree with previous reviewer that the trails near the lodge are closed and you have to drive a while to get to the trails where you can see animals. That takes away from your safari time a bit.

“Loved it, beautiful, tranquil, first class,”

We booked a one night safari in late september 07. We chose Mara Simba by a brillient system my friend liked the name. We were nervous as to what to expect and thought we would be roughing it for a night. How wrong could we be. It was great in all honesty I would have stayed there for my whole holiday and not gone back to the beach resort.
Our room was spacious three single beds, really clean, fab bathroom with spotlights and fantastic water pressure! All rooms look like they have fantistic views over a creek and we had a fab veranda. I sat out there and nearly cried how fantastic it was it was so tranquil and beautiful scenery. The restuarant and bar are situated in the main lodge with again fantastic views, great food loads of choice and really yummy. Our waiter was really nice and all the staff were great. They also have proper cocktails there which was great although they are only slighltly cheaper than english prices.
They have a good souvenier shop and pool.
We were really lucky our driver leonard was great and although we only had 3 game drives we saw all the animals we wanted to see. Another crying momment when we got so close to a fully grown male lion. The only ones we didnt see were cheetah and rhino. We also visited the Masaai village and although a little out of my comfort zone it was an amazing experience. Some momments are priceless and this was one of them. I have a stick and story for my future grandkids.
I would recommend this to any of my friends or family so much so I intend to go back in the future with them.
