“Simply the best!”

Kicheche Bush Camp

Jun 1, 2008

I've been lucky enough to visit over 20 parks throughout Africa and the Mara is a firm favourite. I never normally stay anywhere twice but my first Kicheche experience changed that rule. Having stayed at Kicheche Main Camp and also enjoyed the wonderful tranquility of Bush Camp i can't think of anywhere better to view wildlife in it's natural setting. Managers, drivers, cooks and staff work tirelessly to provide the best for their guests and the result is outstanding! Many thanks and i'll be back.

Kicheche Bush Camp

Apr 1, 2008

In danger of repeating what others have said, this camp was nothing short of fantastic and I would urge anyone going to the mara to consider it. Andy and Sonja (the camp hosts) greeted us on arrival and we have nothing but praise for them and their staff. Our guide for our 4 night stay was Patrick and he was like an encyclopaedia and we thank him for teaching us so much. The six tents are spaced out over the open camp and this gives a degree of isolation with the knowledge that day or night someone is on call if you have any concerns at all. A typical day for us was 6am wakeup with tray of coffee and hot water (tents have running cold only). 6.30am depart for game drive. Arrive back from game drive around 12:30pm. Freshen up for lunch taken outside at dining table with other guests. After an afternoon nap we met at 4pm for tea/cake. 4:30pm left for game drive. As the sun set Patrick served our "sundowner" drinks and we watched the sun setting. Returning to the camp around 7.30pm to shower (bucket shower filled with hot water) and dress for dinner. Meet around the campfire at 8pm for pre-dinner drinks which are followed by an excellent 3 course dinner. The food was amazing and although a set menu basis, they would cater for any special diets notified in advance. Our package was all inclusive for food/drinks. Extras were tips to the staff, tip to the guide and gifts bought from the "gift shop" on the camp - all money well spent. During our stay my husband celebrated his 50th birthday and we had arranged for a balloon flight from a nearby camp. This was well worth the early start (4:30am) and not to be missed! Thanks must go to Mike, the pilot from Bristol. On the night of his birthday, the camp had baked a cake for dessert and danced/sang as they paraded it around the table before he blew out the candle. This place is heaven on earth and this is from someone who was apprehensive about a safari holiday - I am converted! We hope to return one day.

This has to be the most amazing place in the world!
As soon as we arrived we were made to feel welcome by everybody, owners, staff and other guests. We couldn't fault anything, the tents are very spacious and give you a feel luxury without taking away the feel of camping in the wild.
The service was top class and still kept an overall feel of being laid back and relaxed, there isn't a single thing that they couldn't or wouldn't do for you.
On our game drivers we had Simon as our guide, he found and explained everything for us, this guy was amazing! What ever you want to do regarding game drives/walks you can.
I would fully recommend Kicheche Bush Camp to anyone, and if I ever return it would be the only place for me.
We could only stay for 2 nights and had to stay our third night at the Porini Lion camp. It was good but just wasn't the same once you've expreienced everything about Kicheche.

We stayed at Kicheche bush camp during our honeymoon in September. When booking our trip we were slightly worried that camping would not be the special bit of luxury we were after. How wrong we were! We stayed at Kicheched main camp for 3 nights which was wonderful so we didn't want to leave, fearing that the bush camp wouldn't live up to the expectations we'd built at the main camp. Well, all we can say is that the bush camp is sheer heaven! It blew us away and made the main camp seem veritably basic. We stayed at the Bush camp for 4 nights. With only 6 tents it is really intimate and you feel like you are the only one around for miles. Our tent was better than most hotel rooms we've stayed in, with huge comfortable beds and an ensuite shower with views to die for. The food was divine - although we ate too much of it! And the best thing of all is the staff. Despite hearing endless safari tales on a daily basis, they never seemed to tire of our recollections every evening and were as excited as we were by what we were seeing on our game drives. Andy and Sonja run the camp and are truly wonderful - we were very sad to leave as it felt like we were leaving home. The game drives too were fantastic - in camp alone we saw elephants, giraffes and hyenas. Slightly further outside of camp we saw cheetah's with cubs, lions, buffallo, families of elephants, wildebeest, topi, antelopes, to name just a few.

Following our safari we stayed for a week at a 5 star resort in Zanzibar and it wasn't a patch on Kicheche Bush Camp. We only wish we had stayed at the bush camp longer. A perfect place, run by the perfect hosts for a perfect honeymoon. We would definitely recommend it.

A small 6 tented camp situated just outside the Mara. It was peaceful and each of the tents were appointed to a very high standard. The hosts were most helpful and the food was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. I would not hesitate to recommend this place. Great!!
