My boyfriend & I stayed at Island Pacific Hotel for 5 nights. Bear in mind to take down the chinese name of the hotel so as to show the taxi driver on arrival at Hong Kong Airport Express station. The chinese name is "太平洋酒店". My BF & I did not know the chinese name of the hotel and asked the Airport Express customer service counter staff for direction. He wrote the hotel name in chinese on a piece of paper but we were actually brought to a hotel in Wanchai (South Pacific Hotel). [To side track a bit, the hotel staff in South Pacific Hotel were REALLY NICE. Not only did they help us to get a taxi, they told the taxi driver our destination, wrote it in chinese for us and even carried our luggages onto the taxi! Impressive service!!]
Anyway we got to Island Pacific Hotel and checked in at about noon. The room is really clean and the view from the room was great. We requested for a room on the higher floor and was given one on the 25th! That's the highest for their standard room so it's really good. There's a hotel shuttle bus so we took it out, you can check for the timings at the concierge.
The hotel staff are really friendly and polite. They are really helpful as well! The hotel, although not strategically situated, it is just a very short tram ride from Central! Every morning, we will take either the tram or a cheap bus ride towards Central or to Sheung Wan MTR Station and start shopping away!
If you are on a budget, the hotel area offers great budget local breakfasts as well.
I gave the hotel an "above average" rating instead of excellence because of one incident. Unfortunately and fortunately, there was a thunderstorm one morning when we were in the hotel. Thank goodness we were in the hotel, the area around the hotel was flooded! I guess it's due to the lower ground the hotel was built on, we were actually unable to leave the hotel. It was 8am when we were awake. The water level was at knee level at 7am I heard? Then it subsided to ankle level at around 9am. We stayed indoor till noon. The hotel staff did all they could to stop the water from getting into the hotel lobby. There were sand bags, towels and blankets everywhere! And we were stuck as it was almost impossible for cars to get to the hotel entrance. I was just a little disappointed that they had cancelled the shuttle service for the day due to the flood. The tram service was down as well.
Other than this incident of the black thunderstorm & flood which caused the morning to be rather wasted, the hotel is a great place to stay in!
