If you need a hotel that is relatively close to the airport, the Mercure Roxy Hotel is a good choice. It's about a 15 minute drive to the airport, and the hotel offers a free shuttle every half hour for most of the day. Aside from airport access, though, there aren't too many reasons to stay at this hotel.
I'm not saying it's bad; it isn't. On the positive side, the rooms are clean and well appointed, with all of the facilities you might expect, and the hotel staff is friendly and competent. On the negative side, the hotel has a rather inconvenient location. It's in the East Coast area of Singapore, without easy access to the MRT subway system. You will need to take a cab or a city bus to get to most places of interest.
If you do stay at this hotel, I suggest that you avoid the buffet restaurant. It's not cheap (the equivalent of US$30 or so for dinner) and the food is not good. The lamb dish was undoubtedly the greasiest meal I have ever encountered, the salad bar was meager, and the vegetables had clearly lived very long and full lives before collapsing exhausted onto the buffet. The food outlets in the shopping mall across the road offer much better food at much lower prices.
A tip: I had a massage at an establishment called Good Hope in the small shopping area immediately adjacent to the hotel, and it was excellent. Take the money you would have spent on the buffet and use for a massage instead!
