“Not Worth it”

Hotel Casa San Blas Cusco

We recently stayed in Casa San Blas our last night in Cusco. In a city full of interesting and beautiful places to stay, this one really failed our expectations. Although it is well situated, and possesses a lovely colonial facade, the inside is truly sterile. Our room, and from what I could tell most other rooms, had no window. Although it was very clean, it also was noisy. For the price that this place charges, indeed for much less, you can stay in far nicer properties, such as El Balcon, where we also stayed, and even Los Ninos, which is half the price, utterly charming and a not-for-profit that provides about 500 local children with a hot meal, hot shower and homework help.

“Loved Casa San Blas!”

Hotel Casa San Blas Cusco

Aug 2, 2008

We stayed just the one night at Casa San Blas and loved it. Just a shame that circumstances did not permit a longer stay.

The hotel is tucked away down a quiet little cul de sac in the artisan district of Cusco and so perfectly placed for the main plaza, museums, shops, cafes, restaurants etc etc. It is, however, near the top of a fairly steep climb up from the plaza, which may prove a challenge if not yet acclimatised to the altitude.

Our room was a mezzanine arrangement providing a double bed on the upper level and a single sofa bed on the lower. This was where the hotel lost a mark because we had booked a twin room and none was available. Nevertheless we liked the room, with its very nice bathroom and small kitchenette.

As so often it can be the little things that make or break a stay and at the Casa San Blas the little things were all positive: the complimentary toiletaries were of a very good quality, the hotel is doing much to encourage environmentally friendly behaviour by guests, the staff provided free bags of ice for our leg injuries, internet access was free. In fact the staff could not have been more helplful.

Breakfast is taken in the little Tika Bistro at the front of the hotel. We really enjoyed our breakfast choice and freshness and were even more impressed by the evening meal that we had there the night before. We returned a week later with a friend and the staff remembered our name!

“Great Experience!”

Hotel Casa San Blas Cusco

5 of 5 stars
St. Louis
Jul 28, 2008

We spent three nights here and loved it! The location is amazing, so close to the Plaza de Armas. The rooms were bright and comfortable. Our room was close to the stairwell, but that was not really a problem. Internet access was easy and usually no wait. The staff was super helpful, whether giving directions to a local school or helping us negotiate with a taxi. This was probably my favorite hotel of the six hotels we stayed in during our trip to Peru. A great bakery is just up the street as well. We booked through Peru4Less and this wasn't actually our first choice, so I've glad that hotel was booked or we wouldn't have gotten to stay in this gem. If I ever return to Cusco, this is definitely where I will stay.

“Nice but noisy”

Hotel Casa San Blas Cusco

3 of 5 stars
Charleston S.C.

This hotel was nice in every way except for the noise. They first morning we were awaken around 6:45 am by a loud noise that sounded like tennis shoes in the dryer. It turned out to be drums.
All 4 mornings that we stayed at this hotel we were awakened by
fireworks at 7 am along with a very loud triangle clanging. This hotel is adjacent to 2 schools. One is a music school and the other is a primary school. If you don't mind waking up early (7 AM) it is a nice hotel. If you like to sleep late however, consider your options.

“Nice Hotel”

Hotel Casa San Blas Cusco

4 of 5 stars
Santa Monica
Jul 17, 2008

We stayed in Casa San Blas the last two nights of a trip to Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu. Casa San Blas is located in the “San Blas” section of Cusco. It is within walking distance of the Plaza de Armas and many of Cusco’s best restaurants. The rooms are small but comfortable. The bathrooms are bright and clean. A buffet breakfast is included with the price of the room. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful.

My wife and I were traveling with a group of ten friends and family members. While we were gathering in the lobby preparing to go out for dinner, the owner of the hotel introduced himself. He offered to make a toast in celebration of the 4th of July. Most of the people in our group were Americans. He opened a bottle of wine and shared it with everyone. This was followed by some h’ordeuvres. His hospitality made a nice stay in Casa San Blas even nicer.

Casa San Blas is definately worth considering if you are looking for a hotel in Cusco.
