Concorde El Salam Hotel Sharm El Sheikh

Me and my boyfriend have just returned from a fortnight at the concorde sport. We are not fussy people and never complain about anything but i feel i have to with this holiday because i feel i have to warn other people not to go.
We booked with thomas cook but ended up flying on a koral blue flight which was appalling. The plane was cramped and filthy with no entertainment or alchol being served plus what supposed to have been a 5 hour flight lasted 8 hours on the plane as they had to re-fuel in cairo.
We were supposed to arrive at the hotel by monday 6.30pm but got there early hours tuesday morning so one day had gone on travelling. We got to the hotel to find they couldnt find a room for us and had to wait and hour for them to find us one.
The room was nice and clean with a view of the pool and the house keeping guy was very nice but probably only because we gave him a tip at the beginning of the week.
The weather was lovely, obviously very hot but that was the only thing i liked about the holiday.

On the second day my boyfriend got ill with severe stomach cramps, diorrea and sickness which lasted pretty much the whole fortnight. Everybody we spoke to staying at the hotel all had the same to and apparently the week before they were testing the kitchen for ecoli.
When we did manage to go down for food we were afraid to eat anything from the little choice they had there. The pool bar burgers aint bad but i ate one which tasted funny on the last day and now i've come home and got bad stomach cramps and diorrea and have had to miss time off work.
The hotel entertainment is terrible. thats enough to make anyone ill.
The egyptians arent very nice people to be honest. You can see and hear when they are annoyed about something as they make it very obvious and make you feel awkward by talking in their language. They are not very helpful either.
Although the hotel is all inclusive it felt like we were still paying for everything. Never known a holiday like it.

If you want to be ill for a fortnight and lose a stone in weight which my boyfriend did and pay to go all inclusive and still find you're paying for everything anyway then go to egypt but i certainly wont be returning.

“Staying at Main not Sport”

Concorde El Salam Hotel Sharm El Sheikh

2 of 5 stars

Not to be confused with the Concord Sport which is opposite the Main Road, not facing the sea, we stayed in Concord Main.

First impression of this hotel was very good. Layout looked great especially the sea view from the rear of hotel balconies and if you were lucky enough to have a room facing the sea ( we were not) you had stunning views The main pool also looked out to sea. The beach however is hardly anything to write about, and you will be well dissapointed if you think you are getting a soft sandy beach. It is very small and pebbly, but has plenty of sun beds and a beach bar.
Staff very obliging, especially if you tip well. Generally we found all areas were pretty clean. Pools and surrounding areas kept clean and tidy. Gardens very well maintained. Buffet dining area food was kept fresh and replenished all meal times. Fresh Pasta’s and Pizza made to order at lunch and dinner. Good variation of food on offer from salads to roast joints and curries. Deserts usually consisted of cakes, custard dishes and fruit but well presented. Rooms air conditioned, and clean. Bed linen and towels changed each day. Fun seeing what the cleaner had fashioned from just a couple of towels when arriving back each day. We had crocodiles, flowers and even a man sitting on the chair reading a book (can you believe)
Before our holiday I read many reports on trip advisor about Russians at this hotel and as many have said before, yes dress sense sometimes leave a lot to be desired. No one mentioned the dancing though. While we were there the best entertainment during our stay was watching from the balcony the dancing and may I say not JUST the Russians though they loved it and danced to any kind of music that came on. There was entertainment every night, though not that brilliant in our view.
Very surprised seeing main bar, considering the size of hotel. When the main pool closes there is just this one small bar, (piano bar) in the whole hotel, to purchase your own drinks. Of course waiter service was available throughout the hotel, unfortunately, because the waiters are kept so busy you could wait up to 20 minutes for a single drink, it took quite some time to get the waiters attention Trick was to order well in advance of actually wanting a drink. Curfew for all inclusive drinks. 11:30 pm then you have to pay. This is when you really have to think ahead if you want to drink after 11:30 deadline. As well as the drinking deadline, there are some other petty niggling things at the Concord Main as far as all inclusive is concerned. When you arrive in your room you are provided with a bottle of water. Use this and you do not get a replacement unless you pay. Word to the wise, go to supermarket for your water, costs three time the price at hotel to replace. On one occasion we wanted can of coke by the pool and was informed if we wanted a can we would have to pay,£18.00 Egyptian ( approx £1.80) though they would open a bottle of coke and pour you one in a plastic cup for free doh!! Same applied with the beer and water. We went to Supermarket and got Bottle of water and large bottle of coke for less than one can of coke at hotel. There is a fridge in the room but if you want this stocking up you have to pay. If you want delivery of food to room, pay. At the end of our stay we kept the room on for extra 5 hours costing £40.00 – we handed room key over at 5.00 pm. Went straight to bar to get a final drink before departure and was informed that all inclusive finishes at 3:00 pm on last day of holiday, regardless of keeping you room on. Obviously we went to supermarket to purchase our last drinks before leaving hotel for airport.

The area in Sharks Bay where the Concord is just mainly consists of hotels. If you want to escape your hotel complex then you have to get either the hotel courtesy bus to Nama Bay ( 15 minutes away) or a taxi. We only did this once we didn’t like Nama very much, but that is our own taste. Many people thought it was great, hustle and bustle of the town. A lot of the younger generation went to the Hard Rock Café there and said it was fun. Of course the highlight of our trip was to Cairo. It was really good, made even better by the brilliant guide we had. I would recommend this if you have never been before. We flew from Sharm to Cairo, only took 1 hour, but be warned it is a very early start, understandable given the busy schedule. Our guide was not only very informative throughout our cultural visit but also warned us about the big problem they have with people hassling you to buy cheap trinkets or beggars asking for money. Word is DON’T DO IT. At the end of the visit we went back to our hotel tired but exciting and the days events.
One down side during our holiday was many people experienced tummy problems at sometime during their stay, including us. Not only in our hotel, but many people we spoke to suffered at some point Nothing to do with the food I just think the heat and drinking cold drinks change of diet has to take its toll to us who are not used to this kind of extremes. On the whole we had a really good holiday, plenty of fun with a little group we got friendly with by the pool. Would we go to again ? Not for a long time I Having done all inclusive much better before and I think this hotel has some issues that need addressing.

“Better than expected”

Concorde El Salam Hotel Sharm El Sheikh

4 of 5 stars

Me and my boyfriend stayed for a week in the Main hotel.
Hotel is a bit isolated, but out of main entrance are a few shops and you can go into the Sports hotel if you like. We went a walk in there and in the pool but from what we saw, we were glad we were in the Main.
Our room overlooked gardens near the main entrance. Spacious room although bathroom needed a little TLC. Had a hairdryer and telephone in there although not quite sure why a telephone! Cleaner came in every day although didn't look to do much cleaning! Made an arrangement of our towels one day which was nice.
Food was good actually. Loads of choice and hot enough. You can only eat in main restaurant for dinner unless you want to pay at the Italian. You can eat in the Italian and beach bar for lunch for free. Italian and beach bar are nice for a change and do a buffet. Burger and chips is also nice from swim-up bar.
Drinks are rather limited to say the least! I stuck to wine (can only have with meal though), vodka and gin as didn't really like anything else. Crap that AI finishes at 11pm - we just stacked up on drinks before 11!
Entertainment was poor. Mainly consisted of 2 singers or entertainment team. Mr and Miss Concorde competitions were the most entertaining although they weren't the best!
Nightclub is OK but you have to buy your drinks so not really worth it.
Try a Shisha pipe. They are only a couple of quid on the hotel terrace.
Main swimming pool is nice but a bit cold! Not enough sunbeds though. We normally ended up on one of the terraces leading down to the beach which was fine by us.
You can get towel cards which saves you bringing your own. The booth is by the main pool.
Beach is OK but mainly small stones which kill your feet even when you have your flipflops on. You have to walk on the jetty to get into the sea but it's great - haven't been in such a clear sea before and the fish are amazing! My boyfriend saw a Whale Shark as he went quite far out.
Went on one of those double rings with the watersports guys on the beach. Think it was about £7 so not bad. You have to hold on for dear life but didn't come off thankfully! Also went on the Quad Safari which was fun. Went with one of the guys selling trips who come round the pool. Think it was £20 each for our own quad. Went at 5pm and it was still baking hot and it lasted a couple of hours. Were filthy afterwards though! You can buy a DVD and photo if you like but didn't really see the point.
Went into Sharm old town one night. Cost about £8 in a taxi. Was glad to get back to the hotel as you get hassled so much! Never been anywhere like it. I would have liked to have looked in loads of shops but just couldn't be bothered with the hassle.
Naama Bay is better. Get the courtesey bus from hotel but need to book early though. More of an upmarket place. Go and see some traditional belly dancing while you're there - it's great fun!
Went to the Tavern Bar and watched some football. Very cool in there as the air-con was on full blast which was nice as it was still baking outside.
We both had dicky tummies one day but come to expect that whenever we go away. Make sure you take loads of tablets with you. Went to the pharmacy over the road and paid £12 for 2 packets of tablets and toothpaste! Think they charge what they like.
If you are planning on going on any trips (Cairo, Luxor) you need a visa from the airport. Think they are £10/£15 and you get one when you arrive at the airport.
Jump in a taxi and go to Sharks Bay. Costs about £3.50 one way. All the snorkling boats arrive here and there is a stone/ shingle beach and some little shops and restaurants. Just somewhere a bit different to go.
You are close to the airport but I only heard a couple of planes throughout the week.
Duty Free coming home only accepted US Dollars and credit cards for some reason. Not good as wanted to get rid of my Egyptian money. Finally did in one of the little gift shops and Burger King!

“Loved The Concorde El Salam”

Concorde El Salam Hotel Sharm El Sheikh

Jun 29, 2008
3/4 found this review helpful

Having returned from this hotel on the 22nd june i came home to read some of the reviews and realised that quite a few of the reviews had been very poor indeed. I can't quite believe that i have been to the same hotel as some of these people.

Two years ago i went to Sharm-El-Sheik to the dreams beach resort and this hotel was considerably better. The staff really can not do enough for you. I understand that a lot of people are annoyed that they find themselves put into the sports section of this hotel but the standard of the hotel is equal whichever side you end up staying.

The room was clean and bright although the bathroom was in need of a slight refurb, the bath was very small, had booked a sea view room and the view from the room was magnificent.

Some reviews mention that the food at the hotel is repetative, after staying at this hotel for a 2 week stay i can honestly say that i never had the same evening meal twice for the duration of my stay, choice was very good from an indian section, pizza section, pasta section and a stir-fry section as well as the usual buffet and the desserts were gorgeous, the waiter service was a little on the slow side during the evening meal. The pool bar and beach BBQ as well as the Italian restaurant were the choices for lunch with the food all to high standard.

I had a couple of points which i also made to the hotel that i thought could do with attention
* The All-Inclusive finishing at 2300hrs which was a little early
* The lack of a simple mini-bar within your room
* more frequent shuttle service to Naama Bay (the bus did fill up very quickly)

I did get slight Egyptian belly and i took Immodium with me but didn't even touch it, i advise you go to the pharmacy just ouside of the main gates of the hotel they gave me some tablets, and after the first tablet i was right as rain.

Overall i thought this hotel was fantastic and would definatly return in the future i do think that some people do expect too much when going abroad. If you have booked to go here dont take too much notice of the bad reviews and make your own mind up thats exactly what i done and thouroughly enjoyed it.

P.S

IGNORE THE RUSSIANS AND YOU WILL BE FINE HA HA!!!!!!

“A Real Let Down”

Concorde El Salam Hotel Sharm El Sheikh

Jun 26, 2008

We booked this hotel with First Choice for our honeymoon and what a let down!!! Firstly we were booked into the sports section but thankfully before we left a friend of mine who had been before told me the sports rooms are in another hotel across the road so I sorted this out before we went. At no point in the brochure does it say that the sports rooms are in another hotel across the road.
When we arrived in our room the bath was broken, dirty and cracked. The next day I saw the rep and a few hours later we were packing up again to move rooms. They did upgrade us but when we arrived in our new room the bath was dirty although not cracked and broken. This time my husband brought cleaning products from the supermarket and cleaned the bath as we were tired of complaining and waiting for reps. The fridge in the room was broken the whole time despite asking them to fix it. The sliding door didn't lock and we were on the ground floor!! We were not given towels one day so had to ring reception to ask them to bring some over. All inclusive??? If you want ice-cream for desert you have to pay. Bottled water you have to pay (double the price of the supermarket across the road)!! the Italian Restaurant in the complex you have to pay in the evening. All other hotels in the area the a la carte restaurants are all inclusive just the Concorde that charges!!! after 11pm all inclusive finishes. Hardly the romantic honeymoon we expected. The retaurant is like a school canteen, one evening we could not even find a table free. A few times we had finished eating before we were even offered a drink!!! This place is a joke. Not the staffs fault, bad bad management!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT GO FOR A HONEYMOON!!!!!!!!!!!!
