I knew of the construction going on long before we got there but unfortunately the only room they could give us was on the construction side in the Molokai Wing Suites towards the water end of the building. It was a very nice suite, a front room, one bedroom, two balconies," two" bathrooms and a full kitchen (everything you'd want except the stove). With the glass sliding door's shut you could hardly here the construction going on and even if you had them open it wasn't very loud. We also had a partial ocean view. Anyway we weren't in the room that much, there's so many fun things to do. The pools are very kid friendly and nice for adults also. There's a bar, two hot tubs and a couple of very nice BBQ's. There are 4 or 5 BBQ's on the side of the building we were in. I read some reviews before we went and some said the beach wasn't that great in front of the Marriott but I found it to be just fine. The location is the best with the hole Ka'anapali beach and all the activities you could want and the town of Lahaina only five minutes away by car. There's a Hawaiian guy just to the right under the umbrella that will teach you how to surf ( for a fee) and there's plenty of places to eat and shop, and if you go down all the way to the Black Rock and snorkle you might see the 4 huge turtles that were there. Also the Luau at the Royal Lahaina Resort was great ! although the food was plenty I didn't think it tasted that good. We had a great time and I can't wait to go back,

We stayed May 9-14 in the Lahaina Tower. We booked a 4 night rewards stay, and added another pre-night all oceanfront. I was under the impression we would be in the same room for the 5 nights, but on arrival, they told us we would have to move the next day. The desk agent looked for quite a while to try and accommodate us, but was unable to do so. There was no reason to get all upset-they can't create rooms. We were givin room 7208 for one night. It was gorgeous, with a perfect oceanview.
Room: looked brand new, with full kitchen with stainless steel and granite counters. Dining table for 6, bedroom with king bed. Full sofabed in living room and we were ablt to gell a rollaway. The Bathroom has a shower, sink, toilet, and the bedroom has a separate sink and jetted tub. Changed to 4210 for the next 4 nights. It looked a bit more worn, and did not have floor to ceiling windows, but still had a nice view. Our things were stored and delivered to the room when it was ready--we did not have to wait around.
Parking: Spaces were tight, but I never had a problem parking my minivan. The Lahaina tower is right next to the parking garage, and the Adult pool is just outside the entrance.
Food: Beachwalker just OK. Bring your own, or go to Whaler's Village(a 10 minute walk). They had 6 grills ouside our building, and they were always busy, but the people I talked to never had a problem getting a grill. Safeway is 2 miles away. Round Table Pizza is very close by and had good pizza.
Location: Convenient to Lahaina and Whaler's Village. Driving to Hana was long. We left at 8:15AM and got home at 7. We didn't do any hikes as we had our 80 year old parents, but did stop for pictures and walked along the Black Sand Beach. Had lunch in Hana at the little stand on the bay. I think it took 3 1/2 hours to get back, but I could be delirious.
Time share: We had absolutely no pressure. We picked up a packat with discounts on arrival, and in it was info on the time share, but that was it. No other mention.
We'd recommend it. It worked very well for our parents and the 2 of us. Go an enjoy it!

“Loved MauiI!!”

Marriott's Maui Ocean Club

Whether you are reading good or bad reviews, my husband and I travel A LOT and this was a nice place to vacation! Of all the places we've traveled, Maui is really the only place I'd want to come back to. #1 the weather is PERFECT. You are never hot or cold, which makes for a great vacation and there are just no bugs at the resort. We find that wherever we go (Caribbean, Mexico, Florida) you are ALWAYS sweating because of the horrible heat or humidity. We could actually shower here and feel clean all day long. Nice!! #2 the scenery was amazing. From the beautiful ocean water to the humpback whales jumping while you watch from your deck to the gorgeous sunsets...AHH! #3 the GREAT food. What I loved about this resort is you are within walking distance of some fun shops and wonderful restaurants right along the beach. Be prepared to spend a lot on food though if you go out. If you are like us and like a drink with lobster, you will easily spend over $100 at night #4 the awesome snorkeling at Molokini Crater and Turtle Town. The staff at the Lahaina Princess Boat was great. I would recommend going with them on your whale watch or snorkeling tour. They take you out early in the morning, serve you muffins, coffee, etc. and you snorkel for a while and then they serve you lunch on the grill. Just a lot of fun and you will see whales on the way. Avoid the half hour drive to the bay for those tours. They are all the same and this boat holds less people which gives you more of a private snorkel tour.
#5 the town of Lahaina was so convenient and really cool. It was minutes from the resort and had tons of shopping and restaurants. Starbucks is everywhere too, including at the resort, which made it nice for a morning latte on the deck.
#6 the staff was friendly, the resort was clean, the pool and grounds were super nice and I loved the privacy of where the resort was located. I love that the concierge will help you with anything. The timeshare representatives were quick and to the point too with no pressure to buy...very nice.
#7: I would recommend the trip up to Mt. Haleakala...talk about being on top of the world. It is an amazing drive that puts you above the clouds once you reach the top. I loved it!! Pack a sweatshirt or coat...very cold up there. 49 degrees when we went

Negatives: The road to Hana was VERY beautiful but took FOREVER to do from the west side. I felt very unsafe once we reached the narrow part of the road. The locals drove like 50mph on this road which is insane. The curves and one lane bridges certainly is a bit fearful especially when you know people are going that fast. Once we got there, I just wasn't really impressed with what I saw. There wasn't really a huge amount of things to do and we just basically said "This is it?" and turned around and went home. Again though, an AMAZING scenic drive. Just be prepared to be tired from it. I would recommend staying in Hana and making a two day trip out of it. I was also disappointed with the beach. It is a law that you can't have lounge chairs out on the beach and the water is full of coral so you can't use it. That was a major letdown so consequently, we never laid out the entire week.
I was also disappointed with the rooms somewhat. They were super clean and nice but they were staged rather boring and the decks featured two chairs and a mini table. The chairs were so short you couldn't see past or above the deck bar which blocked your view of everything and the table was so small that you couldn't really eat out there comfortably. As loaded as Marriott is, I'd just invest in some type of an actual table that you can sit at. I was also unimpressed with the restaurants on-site. They featured a small menu and high prices. I LOVED the Beachwalk though. Very handy for coffee, breakfast, a pizza, or any type of snack or drink you can think of. (You can purchase a mug onsite and fill up on all you can drink coffee or pop...I would recommend this!!) Other than that, GREAT place to vacation. I would HIGHLY recommend the Marriott to someone and plan to go back.

“Excellent location, OK quality and service”

Marriott's Maui Ocean Club

3 of 5 stars
Portland, OR

We spent a week at the Ocean Club in May 2008. First off I have to say we really enjoyed our stay. Our third floor suite in the Molokai tower was nice. It had an outstanding view of the beach/ocean.
Here are some considerations based on our stay:
- The pool area is really nice. Kids will have a great time there.
- The parking is lousy. As previously noted by other reviewers the spaces in the garage are **very** small. The garage is also a long walk from the Molokai tower up and down stairs and past the pool area. Don't try it with luggage, you'll be sorry if you do.
- The rooms are spacious and furnished nicely. They also have free wireless internet access that worked fine for us. They could use newer TVs.
- The whole place is oriented around selling timeshares. From the moment you arrive you are presented with marketing materials and people intent on selling you a time share. You see it in the lobby, around the pool, along the boardwalk, on the TV in your room, etc.
- Other hotels, restaurants and Whaler's Village for shopping are a short walk away.
- There is a lot of construction going on for a new tower. It appears the tennis courts were sacrificed for this addition.
- The beach immediately in front of the hotel looks great but is not optimal for swimming because the bottom is very rocky. However, a nice swimming section is a short walk away.
- The hotel's only restaurant LongBoards was not especially good. They offered no lunch during the week while we were there. Also, the dinner menu literally only offers about five or six different entrées. They try to steer you towards the expensive buffet.
We would go back for the right price because the location is so nice and the accommodations are more than adequate. We'd love to see improvements in the parking though. Perhaps the new tower will bring a new garage with spaces large enough to accommodate more than Mini's and scooters.
We've also stayed at the Sheraton and consider it nicer in just about every respect. It comes down to a price/value decision.
Finally, the March 2008 review of the property by MarinaWinnipeg does a superb job of describing the ups and downs of staying here. Be sure to read it.

“Great Hotel”

Marriott's Maui Ocean Club

May 12, 2008

We just got back from the Maui Ocean Club and had a great time. We were a family a 13 and this hotel is a great place for families. The pool is great for all ages, and the beach is also wonderful. We have never been to Maui and we loved it. The hotel is in a great area with a lot of dining options near by. The staff were great they remembered who we were and were always helpful. We had four rooms and one of the four had a view of the new tower they are building and we hardley new it was going on other than it was right out the window. This hotel is great and I would recomend it to anyone.
