This is such a cool, romantic, serene hotel with huge rooms, huge closets, and bathrooms that seem to be from the late forties. I was attending a convention at the Hilton Riverside, and it was easy to take the riverside streetcar right up there. Nice to have a cabstand outside, too. It's a bit of a time machine - a quality I love. At one point I was thinking about living there...
There's a great-looking old tiled coffee place/bakery on Ursulines, just a couple of blocks away - though the coffee isn't great but then it rarely is in NO. The Croissant d"Or.
I'm planning to return with my family this fall for a celebration. Great place to stay for a wedding, too.
I just turned the noisy air conditioning off - the controls don't actually work. If your room backs up to the elevator bank, the air conditioner in the hall can drive you crazy, Just turn it off too.

“Great historic hotel”

Le Richelieu In the French Quarter

This is a beautiful old hotel. We had a room on the third floor with french doors that opened onto the street. This hotel had alot of charm, a beautiful bar and small dining room. There is an outdoor swimming pool in the back with loungers and chairs in a pretty setting.

When you left the hotel you left the key with the front desk which was put in a cubby hole with your room number on it and asked for it when you returned.

The hotel is located in a great loation the French Quarter and was surprisingly quiet at night.

“Fantastic old world charm”

Very good value and such a warm southern welcome! Le Richelieu is in a very good location within the French Quarter, very safe and close to the nicer end of Bourbon Street. There certainly wasnt a problem walking back to the hotel at night.
The rooms have a certain 1970s charm - despite being totally renovated after Katrina. The hotel hasn't seemed to change at all and this gives it real character. The staff were fantastic and breakfast on the terrace was a lovely way to start the day.

“A Great Place to Stay in the French Quarter”

We stayed at Le Richelieu for 4 nights at the end of March. After much research online and after looking at reviews we booked a room here for our stay. We were extremely pleased with our stay. There were several good things about this hotel. First the price is one that allows you to still have money to spend in NO. The staff is exceptionally friendly. Our room had a small fridge that was useful in keeping water cold for the warm temps they were having that week. Although I could see in the summer that the temparature in the room may be a problem we were comfortable at night and there was a ceiling fan for warmer temparatures.

We had a 2nd floor king room. Although it did not lead out onto the balcony it had a large window that we were able to keep open at night.

We really enjoyed the location, which we found out was only a couple blocks from Brad and Angelina's home. It was a 10 to 15 minute walk into the main part of the French Quarter and we felt it was a safe walk at any hour. We enjoyed the walk as it allowed us to see more of the area.

The next time we are in the French Quarter we will definitely be staying here.

“Loved it!”

We stayed here three nights in late March, and enjoyed it so much we came back the next weekend for a couple more nights. We picked this hotel for the free self-parking and the fact that it was located in a quiet section of the french quarter. The only concern I would have is the central ventilation system. You can't control the temperature of the air in your room. Our room was on the verge of being too warm at night. During the cooler months this hotel would be my first pick for a french quarter hotel. The hotel has much charm, and the staff is great!
