The hotel had a great location and was generally fine. They had wireless in the lobby but not in the rooms which would have made things better. The staff was helpful and directed me to a great local restaurant--Mothers--which was a big plus. I had a very early flight and called the desk at 0445 to book a taxi--no answer. I put on clothes and went to the lobby to find it abandoned except for a security guard who called the taxi. When I came back down, the driver commented that he had been there for 15 min and seen noone. Just dropped the card and left but found it somewhat disconcerting that there was no staff person on duty with the doors fully accessible.

“In my opinion this is better than a 2 star hotel.”

La Quinta Inn and Suites Downtown New Orleans

Jan 22, 2008

I think this is a great value. I am confused by it being a 2 star hotel. I think it is better than that. It was new, clean, large rooms, decent breakfast and great location. Comparing it to other New Orleans hotels I think the condition is above average.

“Clean, cheap, modern - great value near French Quarter!”

I always look for hotels that are reasonably priced and well-located when I travel. We stayed at this hotel for only $100 per night during the Memorial Day weekend, and thought it was a great deal. It is just a short 5-minute walk to the French Quarter and Bourbon Street, and the rooms are actually very nice and modern for a 2-star hotel. It's in a high-rise building, right next to some other major hotels, and the room rate included a simple breakfast (we only made it for breakfast once since it closed at 10am, and there wasn't much selection close to closing time).

The only issue we had is that they didn't have any rooms with 2 beds even though we made our reservations several months ahead and I called to confirm the day before. However, they moved us to a bed with two beds the next night.

Would definitely recommend others to stay here if you're looking for a clean, simple room, close to the French Quarter, and a hotel for around $100 that seems nicer than 2 stars.

“Downtown hotel has some issues”

La Quinta Inn and Suites Downtown New Orleans

We stayed at La Quinta for 5 nights (Sun-Thurs). My husband was doing business in town and so we did not have a choice in hotel because his company was paying for it. I am not a fan of La Quinta so I will not try and not be too negative. I will outline everything with pros and cons. FYI - I am 31 year old female and my husband is 37. We usually prefer Hilton brands or Wyndham.

Pros:
1. Very nice staff at front desk, always said hello or good morning, etc.
2. Hotel allowed dogs, which is very nice. We brought our labrador. It was difficult, however, to find places to walk her (not hotel's fault of course)
3. Good location. Walking distance to French Quarter, Riverside, etc (about 1/2 mile - but I like to walk)...
4. I would say above average comfort on beds for a 2 star hotel. Feather like pillows and mattresses were acceptable. I have been to other 2 star hotels where the beds are not tolerable.
5. Decent size room for 2 star hotel. Nice large work desk.
6. We had a microwave and refrigerator (not in all rooms though) which was nice.

Cons:
1. I read online that they had a heated pool and whirlpool. I was excited to possibly have the chance to swim. Well the pool was not heated and the whirlpool was full of brown, trashy water ( I should have brought my camera to post picture, but did not have it). It was a shame because, I think winter is the best time to use a whirlpool. If something is not in operation, at LEAST empty it so you do not have to see a contaminated tub of water.
2. I did some laundry since we were here for 5 nights. There are 2 washers and 2 dryers. One of the dryers made a horribly loud noise when drying. The other person in the laundry room told me they have informed the hotel and that they still have not fixed it. If I were the hotel, I would worry about the horrible sound disturbing guests in the rooms nearby.
3. Continental breakfast was OK. I found it to be comparable to other 2 star hotels with muffins, pastries, yogurt (some days), fruit, watery scrambled eggs, sausage (or bacon some days), oatmeal toast, OJ, coffee, tea. Not sure whether to put under pro or con - just average I guess!
4. Speaking of continental breakfast. The first morning we were here the sign stated breakfast was 6-9 a.m Mon.- Fri. We had to wait until 6:45 for it (my husband was a little late 1st day because of that. The 2nd morning it was ready at 6:30 and the 3rd morning it was ready by 6:00. I guess they realized they needed to open on time with our business group. Maybe it is slow season for them so they are not always punctual!

I would probably not stay at La Quinta again if I had a choice, although I do have to admit having my dog with me was wonderful! They are in the same price range as a Hampton Inn and I feel Hampton Inn is a lot better of a hotel overall....

“Best Deal in Downtown New Orleans!!!”

La Quinta Inn and Suites Downtown New Orleans

4 of 5 stars
San Francisco, CA

Stayed at the La Quinta New Orleans Downtown for 3 nights in December 2007. This is an excellent hotel and I highly recommend it to all travelers to the area!!!!! The rates were so incredibly low for a downtown location. Right now New Orleans is La Quinta's featured destination, so I was able to book through their website for between $67.50 and $79 for each of my 3 nights. Even when that special passes by, try the AAA discounts because they're amazing. You are able to walk everywhere--one block to Canal St., a few blocks to everything in the French Quarter including Cafe du Monde, the Gray Line tours, Riverwalk Shopping, cruises, Imax, Aquarium, Canal St. Ferry, tons of restaurants, etc... I loved walking everywhere because driving looked difficult. You don't need a car, plus it would cost $22 a night to park it, so forget about renting a car here. The lobby is big and spacious with tons of couches, the staff are really friendly and helpful, the business center is handy, the breakfast is generous (including hot items such as eggs, bacon, sausage), the rooms are large, comfortable, and clean, and the hotel is well maintained. It was so quiet at night and the beds were super comfortable. I loved my stay and would recommend this hotel to all travelers to the area. My only complaints are 1) that the toilets didn't have much power and you had to hold down the handle forever to flush, and 2) when I checked in I asked for a room with a view, but my room faced the brick wall of the neighbor hotel (I guess that's what you usually get with downtown hotels, anyways). Please email me if you need any more specific information or advice. Thanks!!
